Hi I'm Colby Peterson

I'm a State Placer in Wrestling. I'm a future missionary in Ukraine Dnepropetrovsk. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a part of the Class of 2017. Throughout High School I was a wrestler. I placed 3rd at state my senior year. I've also been a part of National Honor Society for three years, with my senior year being a part of the presidency. I'm proud to say that I am an Eagle Scout and I have earned my Duty to God award. I have been accepted to BYU, but I have deferred to serve a mission in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine. In my free time I love to play the piano, listen to music, snowboard, workout, and generally be outdoors. I love spending time with my family and friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because it gives me peace that I can have an Eternal Family and that I can live with my Heavenly Father again. I'm Mormon because of the hope that the atonement of Jesus Christ gives me. Through Jesus Christ I am able to have new beginnings and to be forgiven of my sins. I'm Mormon because of the Eternal Happiness I am able to obtain from it. I'm Mormon because I love to serve others. I'm Mormon because through Jesus Christ weak things are able to be made strong. I am Mormon most importantly and simply because I love Jesus Christ. I want to obey his commandments and feel his love at all times. He is my Savior and my Redeemer and I owe everything I have because of him.

How I live my faith

I thoroughly love performing my priesthood duties. I love to bless the sacrament every Sunday as well as bring the sacrament to those who are unable to partake of it during church. I also love serving my home teaching families. I try to look for anyway I can help serve them and bring the Light of Christ in their lives. I try to look for ways I can serve others everyday whether that be a physical, emotional, or spiritual need. I love bringing the Light of Christ to others and love sharing what happiness the Gospel can bring.

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Colby Peterson
We baptisms for the dead for those who did not get the chance to be baptized in this life. We act as proxy for people as though they were actually there being baptized themselves. They then have the chance to accept this ordinance and the Gospel. We often associate baptisms for the dead with family history work. We are encouraged to learn about our ancestors and our heritage so we can perform their baptisms and other temple work. Show more Show less

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Colby Peterson
The atonement of Jesus Christ makes it possible for us to achieve Eternal Life. It gives us a chance to be made whole and clean again. It is through the mercy and grace of God that our sins are forgiven as long as we make the effort. It was necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice his life so we wouldn't have to feel the pain and suffering that would come with consequences of our mistakes. Show more Show less
