Hi I'm Emily

I'm a college kid, a musician, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Oregon in the United States, music has been a passion my entire life. I attend Brigham Young University. I have been called to serve in the Bolivia Cochabamba Mission August 2017 - February 2019

Why I am a Mormon

People always ask, why are you Mormon? Why be part of a church with so many guidelines on how to live your life and that asks of so much of your time? Why do you go to three hours of church on Sunday, then two hours of youth on Wednesday, meetings, visit with others in your church, and attend the temple? But those are the reasons I have chosen to stay on this path. These guidelines gives me a purpose when making everyday choices and empowers me to be working towards a goal of self-improvement rather than constantly questioning my decisions. As a college student and a young adult there are so many things to do in the free time we have, but often there are so many options that we end up doing nothing at all. The church has so many activities and organizations that facilitate time filling activities for us to be engrossed in activites that are not only strengthening of ourselves, but organize a way for us to be involved in our community. The church and its organizations, great and divinely inspired are all centered around the docterine that God is a loving Heavenly Father. That He is aware of our trials, He is aware of the earth and the potentials of men both good and bad. That He sent the first created spirit Jesus down to earth to walk with us, His brothers and sisters to be the example of righteousness, charity, and a model by which to base our actions. God inspired men and women throughout time to write about their experiences on their journies to follow God's will. On the eastern hemisphere He inspired men such as Moses, Noah, Matthew, Job and so many others to creates books about their lives not only for us to learn, but to know that we are not alone in what we are facing in life. On the western hemisphere He similary had men write their stories for the same reason. And just as William Tindale and so many other man translated the Bible, Joseph Smith and many other valient men were inspired to bring forth the Book of Mormon. Together they are the word of God.

How I live my faith

I think the greatest way to teach and have the spirit bear witness of Christ's sacrifice and God's love for his children is by serving others and being the vessel through which God can show his light. All throughout my life I have looked for opportunities to serve those around me whether it be volunteering with the Girl Scouts of America, helping on Church welfare farms, humane societies and just looking for ways to show others I love them. I am able continuing sharing this love through music. I was given the opportunity to sing with the Brigham Young University Choir this year and had many opportunities to perform pieces at events such as our church-wide general conference meeting in Salt Lake, Utah, whereby singing uplifting music I felt I was showing God's love to his children through a language everyone understands which is music.
