Hi I'm Emma Vellinga

I am a missionary in Alaska Anchorage. I love my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My parents and my siblings are my best friends! We love to take road trips together, discover cool places (especially restaurants), and have fun. I grew up in Illinois but my family moved to Utah after my sophomore year of high school. Since moving to Utah I have realized my love for the outdoors! Hiking is my favorite. I also love all things crafts (you're never too old for crafts!). Although I am not very good, I find creating things from nothing peaceful and fun-whatever it may be! I am going to be a missionary for the LDS church in about a month and I am so excited! Alaska is going to be cold, but I am looking forward to serving the Lord and others for 18 months :)

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because there are certain principles that I have learned and know are true that are taught by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints that give me the comfort and peace I know I could not get anywhere else. Because of my faith I have learned that I can be with my family forever (even after death)! Because of my faith I know that even when I make mistakes or fall short, I can be forgiven through repentance because of Jesus Christ. Because of my faith I know that I am loved. When I am sad, I can turn to Heavenly Father in prayer and feel peace and comfort, and always know that I can get back up and try again. I am a Mormon because I have developed (and am still developing) a personal relationship with my Heavenly Father. I know these things are true and because of them, I am happy!

How I live my faith

I currently attend my parents ward and help teach their Sunday School class (16/17 year olds). Every Sunday we meet for one hour during church and discuss gospel topics and other things! There is really a sense of belonging and community, as everyone tries to uplift and build each other. We all try to show support for one another and be a friend to all!
