Hi I'm Katie Roberts

I grew up in Orem, Utah. I am an English major at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am the second oldest out of five kids. My older brother has autism and my youngest sister has some pretty severe food allergies. I am a college kid, just finishing up my second semester. I love music and art. I play the piano and the clarinet and I sing. I used to play the saxophone too. I like listening to all kinds of music but I like playing it even better. I love to read just about anything I can get my hands on so I am currently majoring in English. I am not entirely sure what I will do with my life but books will definitely be involved somehow.

Why I am a Mormon

I know this church is true. I have read the Book of Mormon many times and each time I do I feel the Holy Ghost testify to me of its truth. There is such pure happiness and love in this church- how can it not be of God? I was raised in the church, but my true conversion has been gradual and my testimony is still growing day by day. The peace I feel every time I attend the temple, read the scriptures, go to church, pray, sing the hymns, go to Institute, and serve others is so real. I know it comes from God and I know I am doing what He wants me to do. Moving to college was a scary thing; I was the first to leave home and it was the first time I had ever left. The only way I was able to hold my head high and find happiness each day was because of my membership in this church. I knew God would not leave me in my time of need. I turned to Him in prayer often and He always answered my prayers. Even when in my mind I knew I should have felt paralyzing fear, my heart was filled with peace and I was able to have a wonderful and successful first semester of college. God is real. He answers prayers. He loves each one of us. And no where have I ever felt His love and His presence so strongly than in this church, doing God's will. The Book of Mormon is one of my greatest friends; it always bring me peace, it is filled with great wisdom, and it shows me what to do and what not to do. It is the guidebook to ultimate happiness! I know Jesus is the Christ and I know He lives. I have felt the power of His Atonement in my life and I know because of His Atonement each one of us can return to live with Him. His Atonement overcomes every sin, every heartache, every pain, every illness, every bad thing! Christ's Atonement has real power in my life. Christ has saved me and I owe Him. He lives and I will testify of that every day for the rest of my life.

How I live my faith

I currently pick out the music we sing in our Sunday church meetings which is the best thing ever. As I spend time each week looking at and reading over the the hymns, deciding which ones would be appropriate to sing for Sunday, I am able to draw closer to God and learn more of Him. Music has great power to move people and help them feel God's love, so I am glad I have the opportunity to remind people they are loved and that God is watching over them. I love Institute! Institute is a place where young adults can go to learn more about Jesus Christ and His Gospel. I learn new things everyday and each time I go I feel God's love for me. I also participate in visiting teaching, which is where two women are paired up and assigned to visit some other women in the ward. It is such a great way to check up on everyone in the ward and make sure they are truly doing ok. I have been able to make many close friends through visiting teaching and I have learned how to have Christlike love for everyone. As I visit with each woman I am assigned to, I can feel God's love for them and I am able to draw closer to them and to my Savior.
