Hi I'm Tom

I am a recent convert to the Church. I have known since I was 12 that I was put on this Earth to make other peoples lives better.

About Me

I am a recent convert to the Church and am about to set out on a Senior Couples Mission with my wife. I am a retired school teacher and I can honestly say that I don't feel like I have worked a single day in my life. Working with my students was a passion not a job and I am extremely blessed to have been able to do this for 32 years. 15 years as a counsellor and the last 17 years working in Special Education. I met my wife 7 years ago while working at the Temple. We were married and sealed for all Time and Eternity in 2010. Between us we have 5 children and 14 grandchildren. After retirement from teaching I took a job with Scouts Canada and oversaw all of the Scouting groups in Southern Alberta. I totally enjoyed this position as I helped strengthen the relationship between the Church and Scouting. I also got to attend the LDS Leadership Training at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. This was one of the most spiritual events I have ever participated in. We were taught by the General Young Men's Presidency and the General Primary Presidency. My entire life has been about helping others achieve their best! My life completely changed when I joined the Church. I have never experienced the joy that has been mine for the last 9 years. I met the woman of my dreams, was sealed for all Time and Eternity, work in the Baptistry at the Temple, and have come to love the words of the Gospel. I love my Father in Heaven and my elder brother Jesus Christ

Why I am a Mormon

I have always had friends in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints but was never interested in joining the Church. I had reached a point in my life where I wanted to leave the city and live in a smaller community. The community I chose was about 80% LDS, which was really strange as I did not want to be a Mormon. On the first day in the new community a little old lady stopped by and asked if she could bring a couple of young men over to talk. I explained that I was not interested in joining her Church but she was welcome to bring these young men over. They came every Tuesday evening for two years! I liked everything that they said except I just couldn't buy the Joseph Smith story. At the end of the 2 years I was sitting talking with some friends at work and they were giving me a hard time about wasting the Missionaries' time. I argued with them for almost an hour. I finally stood up and said "Thank-You". They asked me why and I stated that I had just spent an hour defending something that I supposedly didn't believe in. It was now obvious that I believed in this Church way more than I thought I did. I immediately phoned the Missionaries and we set up an appointment for Baptism the next weekend. This little old lady changed my life. I did not find the Church, it found me! I have no doubt about the Joseph Smith story now. I know it is true and I know the Church is true. I have a firm Testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and want to share that Testimony with as many as will listen Because of this Testimony and the support of a loving and kind wife, I am now ready to take the next step in my life in the Church. We will be leaving to attend the MTC in 4 weeks and then spend 23 months serving Christ as Senior Missionaries

How I live my faith

I am very community minded. I volunteer at the Seniors Association, Lion's Club, work with adults with disabilities, and spent 6 years on Town Council. My greatest rewards have come through working with youth. I spent 32 years as a school teacher, I had the honor and pleasure of teaching Sunday School, I got to be the Ward Mission Leader and work with the young Missionaries, I was secretary to the High Priest Group, I was a Family History Consultant for 3 years and I have been privileged to work in the Baptistry for 8 years at the Temple. I try very hard to complete my Home Teaching assignment every month. I have had the same companion for 8 years and we have only missed 3 appointments in that time
