Hi I'm Betty Ann

I am a mother of 11, grandmother of 25, and great-grandmother of 4 as well as a Certified Nurse Midwife and College Professor.

About Me

I have been married for nearly 50 years to a wonderful and good man whom I love more now than when we were first married. My greatest joy is my family. I also enjoy reading, singing, and being out in nature. I am famous for my homemade donuts, wheat bread, and pies. Though I was born in Florida, I have lived in the mountains for nearly 50 years and love them dearly. I became a nurse when my youngest child was 3 and have found it a very fulfilling career. As a Certified Nurse Midwife, I have delivered over 600 precious babies. I have taught student nurses for over 10 years and absolutely love helping them achieve their dreams.

Why I am a Mormon

I had attended church nearly every Sunday from a very young age and had read the entire Holy Bible. My father died when I was 11 years old but my pastor could not assure me that I would see him again. That all changed when wonderful sister missionaries began teaching me the gospel when I was 15 years old. They told me that our spirits live on after our bodies die and that we can live as families in heaven like we did here on the earth. This was wonderful news but was it true? How could I know? I felt that it all hinged on whether Joseph Smith was telling the truth when he said he saw the Father and the Son as a boy of 14. I thought I am about his age and I prayed as Joseph did. I reread Joseph's story of his vision and I prayed with great intensity to know if it happened as Joseph claimed. I was filled with a wonderful warmth and I knew for certain that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that he did see our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ in answer to his humble prayer. If Joseph was a prophet, then the Book of Mormon was true and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was true as well. I have tested this gospel for over 50 years and have an absolute conviction that this is the way back to our Heavenly home. I have been sealed for eternity to my parents and my husband in the Holy Temple. I know with great certainty that the Book of Mormon is God's word just as the Bible is. Come unto Christ. He lives. He loves each of us. He knows our names and wants us to be happy with our families now and forever. That is why I am a Mormon!

How I live my faith

I have had the privilege of teaching many classes to all ages from children to youth to adults. I love sharing the insights and testimony I have gained from the Holy Spirit about the life of Jesus Christ and his teachings. At times I have been called upon to conduct meetings for the sisters of the church and help plan for them to receive help with meals, cleaning, or childcare in times of illness, after the birth of a child, or the loss of a loved one. I have worked as a Cub Scout den leader conducting fun weekly meetings for boys aged 8 to 11. With my husband, I go monthly to visit several families and bring them an encouraging lesson about the gospel of Jesus Christ and how to meet life's challenges. I also visit several sisters on my own. My husband and I are always looking for ways to serve these families. I read the scriptures daily and pray daily on my own and with my family to know how I might best help and serve my neighbors and others I encounter at work or in the community. I have done much research about my ancestors and have compiled a family tree of several generations. I go to one of the Lord's Holy Temples as often as I can to learn of Him and make covenants to serve him. One of our children's hymns perhaps says it best. "I am trying to be like Jesus."
