Hi I'm Sam

I grew up in Massachusetts and Australia. I love learning, music, nature, and my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I currently live in Virginia. I have been called to serve as a full-time missionary in Angola for the next two years. I love reading books that inspire me to think and care and feel, listening to all kinds of music, hiking, singing in choirs, writing, spending time with my family, teaching and public speaking, and watching favorite movies and TV shows. I spent my childhood in Massachusetts: playing pretend around in the yard with my two older sisters, racing sticks floating down rivers, watching the sun shine through the leaves of trees overhead, having my mind opened to the wonders of learning, walking around Walden Pond with my mom, and playing soccer on a team coached by my dad. I spent my adolescence in Australia: learning about a whole new part of the world, going on backpacking trips with my dad, doing debating and public speaking, singing in all the school choirs I could, doing some school leadership, discovering that I loved all my classes too much to choose what I want to do when I grow up, deciding that it's best to be optimistic. After spending five years in Australia, I moved to Virginia, and that takes you to now! I love the gospel, and I am thrilled to serve the Lord in Angola for the next two years.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it brings such amazing truth and joy to my soul and to my life. I grew up in the Church, and the Spirit has confirmed to me the truth of the gospel and that this is Jesus Christ's true church. Living God's commandments has ultimately brought so much happiness and peace into my life. Through faith in Jesus Christ, committing to live God's commandments, and studying His word, I have been able to grow in my faith and spirituality, having more and more truths confirmed to me as I continue to pray and study. I know that God loves each of us and wants us to be happy, and the way to do this is to follow God's word. If we come unto Christ, we will be given peace throughout our lives.

How I live my faith

I love singing in our church choir--it's such a wonderful feeling when all our voices combine to praise God and declare our faith. I am a teacher for a Sunday class of young single men, where I get to talk about scriptures, share guidance from our prophets past and present, and discuss how we can better live gospel truths. I also have loved being a part of the Boy Scouts for the past ten years of my life, as a participant and leader, rejoicing in God's creations in the natural world. As a student, I also attend religion classes every week to learn about the scriptures and prepare for a full-time mission.
