Hi I'm Barbara Jane

Born and raised in Iowa, you know that is where the tall corn grows. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife of almost 50 years, a mom of 5 cherished children and their super spouses and a goin' granny of 17+ truly GRAND children. I came out West to go to school and earn a BS degree in Secondary Education. I also met and married the Love of my life. Later I attended graduate school and earned a Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. I have had several careers/occupations over the course of my life; teaching high school (a fun job), being a full time mom (my favorite job), working in a university graduate program (a fascinating position), serving as a missionary at home and in NYC (a fabulous experience) and being a grandmother (a fantastic fulfilling surprise). I have a quest for learning new things each day. Reading, family history, gardening, cooking, biking, walking, crafts, creative mending and sewing and spending time with family are some of my favorite things to do. I especially like designing and sewing beautiful blessing outfits, baptism dresses and modest formal wear. I am also a regular blood donor, although, I can't I say I love doing it but recognize the need.

Why I am a Mormon

For several years on Friday nights our family studied the scriptures and gospel doctrine with the missionaries . Even as a child I recognized the spirit of truth the missionaries brought into our home of Christ's restored church after the pattern of the church Christ established when He was on the earth. As I have learned "line upon line and precept on precept" I am in awe of the beauty, simplicity and completeness of Heavenly Father's Plan of Happiness for His children. I am grateful for this knowledge and comfort knowing we have the opportunity to be an eternal family. I am grateful for the commandments and Word of Wisdom which protect us from the world's snares and traps. I love feeling the Holy Spirit's guidance and influence in my life. One morning as I was praying the Holy Spirit prompted me to go to the doctor. I wasn't feeling great but not that sick to go to a doctor I thought. Nevertheless, I acted on the prompting and found out I did have a contagious infection which could have resulted into a more serious health threat if left unattended. This is a minut example of the many inspirations received in my life. There is not a problem or challenge in this life the Church does not address with an answer or program to assist one in overcoming the negative situation. As an example the church's Family Services have an addition recovery program for overcoming addictive behaviors. We have self reliance programs to assist people in furthering their training, education and skills to better support themselves and their families. We fast two meals the first Sunday of each month and contribute the money we would have spent on those meals toward helping those in need. The church conducts multiple humanitarian projects around the world such as digging wells in Africa, supplying wheelchairs to those with mobility issues in India, feeding starving children in Ethiopia and other countries. We are often the first to respond to national and global disasters.

How I live my faith

Each day I pray for the guidance and inspiration from the Holy Spirit to assist me in what Heavenly Father would have me do and say today to better exemplify me as one of His daughters and member of His church. Sharing garden produce, baked goodies, meals and sewing projects are some ways I have been able to use my talents in serving my family, friends and neighbors. Working in our church primary children's program, women's and young women's enrichment programs including visiting teaching has expanded and blessed my life. As visiting teachers women have the opportunity each month to visit, teach, assist and serve several of the ladies in their congregations creating special bonds and friendships As a PTA board member, merit badge scouting counselor, 4-H leader, volunteer teacher in the Music and Art programs and secretary/treasures for the Utah Rehabilitation Association are ways I have been able to serve our great community and state. My Love and I have had the opportunity to serve as missionaries in the Family Services Addiction Recovery Program, in the Employment Resource Center in Manhattan, New York, assisting people find jobs and currently in our home mission serving young adults in a university setting. Church services and programs are open to both members and those of other faiths.
