Hi I'm Kaija

I grew up in tornado alley. I love to study and to experiment. I'm a biotechnologist. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I love to question, explore and create. I am fascinated with the sciences and the arts (though I am not an exceptional artist). I appreciate opera and classical music above all other genres. When I am not studying, I am experimenting. Usually in the kitchen, learning different techniques and perfecting recipes for consumption. In lab I work on a microscopic level with bacterium and other organisms. In both settings I love having positive results. If something does not work out I try again until it does. I'm not entirely a perfectionist, but I do appreciate conclusive data. Despite my adoration of opera, I am a percussionist. I love the drums and all board instruments. If I had to pick my favorite instrument it would be the marimba. The sounds that you produce from such an instrument are glorious. Playing music gives me such joy. A few of my hidden hobbies include knitting, dancing and gardening. I love the satisfaction of producing an article of clothing with my own hands and being able to share that joy with others. I've had no technical training in dance but I love improvisation and modern dance. I know I look strange when I dance, but to express my inward feelings in an abstract way is somewhat liberating. My favorite hobby of all time is gardening. It's not just the great feeling you get when you are able to partake of something that you grew, but it is also the joy of putting so much time and thought into a task. Caring for plants is such a rewarding venture.

Why I am a Mormon

I've explored different faiths, but the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints answers the questions that I have and gives hope for the future I could have. The gospel is simple and true. I know that Christ suffered for our sins so that we would not have to if we only repent and come unto Him.

How I live my faith

I love to serve in any way I can, both inside and outside of my ward. This brings true happiness, and of that I can testify. Service doesn't have to be church related at all. It could be something as simple as assisting someone with a difficult assignment or helping to clean a disorganized laboratory or greenhouse. Anything that can help lift the burden off of another's shoulders is showing your love and appreciation for them. This in and of itself is rewarding, but the blessings that you receive on top of that are tenfold.
