Hi I'm Julya

I'm a 4.0 student preparing to serve a mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love school! If I could get paid to go to college for the rest of my life, that's what I would do. I have always set high standards for myself, and I love to achieve. That's why I'm a 4.0 student. I'm currently studying business and I enjoy it. I am taking a break from school to go on a mission, though, and I'm so excited. I also love music. I have taken piano, voice, and guitar lessons, and participated in community theater productions. I was part of the Music Dance Theater team at my high school. I was in choir throughout high school as well. I started out in ward choir, then went to Cadence (women's choir), then A'Capella, then I was the president of Madrigals (the top choir of the school), and I even received the Vocal Performance Sterling Scholar award. I am now one of the few members of Chamber Singers at my university that isn't a music major. Last but not least, I love crafts. I can crochet, knit, sew, and basically do anything else you need. I have crocheted several blankets and even a shawl. I have knitted two and a half sweaters. I have sewed one quilt and two sets of pajamas. I look forward to continuing doing what I love and learning new skills.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in this gospel, but around the time I became a young woman, I wondered why I came to church. This was when I began to develop my own testimony instead of rely on that of my parents. What helped me through this time were some wonderful friends, family members, and leaders that taught me to apply gospel principles in my life to know of their truth. This pattern has helped me to continue growing to where I am now. I know that we have a Father in Heaven and we are all part of an eternal family. We have the opportunity to return and live with our Heavenly Father if we endure this life well and follow His Plan of Happiness. The elements of the gospel are so beautiful. Faith and repentance have taught me a great deal in my life. I'm grateful I've had the opportunity to be baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. This gospel brings such joy to life, and it helps us to not only endure life, but to be happy. That is the true motivation for me to continue living the gospel: it makes me so happy.

How I live my faith

I am currently preparing to serve my mission. I have received my call to the Scotland/Ireland Mission, and I cannot wait. To prepare, I'm reading the Book of Mormon again, and I'm specifically studying it to learn as much as I can about Christ and how I can become like Him. I'm so grateful for the peaceful feeling I get when I read that book. I am also attending a Mission Prep classes at Institute and at church. They have helped me be excited and have taught me how to effectively share my knowledge of the gospel. I also serve as a supervisor for visiting teaching in my ward and I visit teach some girls in my ward. This has been a great way to get to know some wonderful girls and it has opened my eyes to new perspectives on living the gospel.
