Hi I'm Kortney

I'm a student. I'm a missionary. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student studying English Education and Theater Education. I love to sing and play the piano, read, play games with family and friends, play softball and volleyball, and watch my brother play baseball.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a very active family. I was baptized when I turned 8. Even thought I had always been taught about the gospel and the scriptures, I had to find my own testimony. I had to decide for myself if I believed what I had been taught growing up. When I was in 8th grade I had a lot of questions from friends who weren't members of the church about what I believed and why I did the things I did. At first, I had a hard time answering their questions because I wasn't sure what I believed, but I wanted to have an answer for them. I began reading the scriptures, the Book of Mormon more specifically, and praying more often. It wasn't like I all of a sudden had an epiphany and my life was changed. For me, my own testimony came in the form of a peaceful feeling my heart that all that I had been taught as a child was true. The next time my friends asked me about my beliefs I told them that I believe that Jesus Christ suffered and died for me and for them. I believe that Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God and that he translated the Book of Mormon by the power of God. It was my simple testimony. After I shared this with them, one friend asked me if I enjoyed being a Mormon. With more conviction that I had ever said anything before I answered with a firm, "yes", and realized that it was true. I had experienced so much joy and received so many blessings because of the gospel. As I have gotten older my testimony has grown and gotten stronger. It has become the central point in my life that shapes all of the decisions I make. I know that without the gospel in my life I would not be where I am and who I am today. I can't imagine living my life without the joy the gospel brings to me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving others where I have the opportunity. I help teach children in church. I am always willing to share what I believe with other people. I have been called as a full-time missionary and I am so excited to serve the Lord.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Kortney
Mormons are not required to serve a mission. It is a personal choice that everyone makes. When a young man turns 18 and a young woman turns 19, they have the opportunity to serve as a full time missionary. But anyone can be a missionary simply by being a good example to those around them and living the gospel. Show more Show less
