Hi I'm Doug

I was born and raised in Southern California.

About Me

Hi, I'm 66 years old, my wife and I were married very young. She was 18 and I was 17, we were married a week after we graduated from high school. It is now 49 years later and we have 5 children (all married), 21 grandchildren and 6 Great-grandchildren (and counting). We owned and operated a retail store (Marine Hardware) for 20 years, and after we sold it, I worked in Manufacturing Management for 20 years at Boeing. I worked an additional 8 years selling Marine Hardware for a Wholesale Distribution Company. All of my life I was active in sports and played baseball & football in High School. I have slowed down quite a bit and now the only sport that I play is Golf and of course I enjoy playing with our Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized a member of the LDS Church when I was 10 years old. My Mom and siblings were baptized at the same time. We moved shortly after our baptism and since we lost contact with the Church, we became less active in the Church. After Marriage, my wife who had investigated other religions decided to find out about the LDS Church. She agreed with its teachings, was baptized and became active in the Church. I didn't have a testimony, therefore I did not attend Church with her at that time. Later, I attend church with her periodically and found myself on my knees beside my bed praying for an answer on whether the LDS Church was true or not. I received my answer the next morning! Yes, the church was true. We have never looked back. We very rarely miss a Sunday of attending church. We love it, it's teachings and the people. All of our Children, their spouses, our grandchildren and great-grandchildren are active in the LDS Church. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has changed our lives. It has given us direction and guidance. It has helped us to be a better people, better parents, better spouses and kinder and less judgmental of others. We are no longer the Cynical and negative people we once were. We have Jesus Christ and his Church to thank for that.

How I live my faith

I was just release recently as the Bishop of the Young Single Adult Ward. This is a Congregation of Young Single Adults from the ages of 18-30. I was their Bishop for 3 years. They are a very active age group and I had to run to keep up with them! My wife and I enjoyed being around them and watching them grow in the Gospel and grow in maturity. They are good kids who enjoy having good clean fun. Prior to that calling, I was the Bishop in a family Ward for 6 years. I learned a great deal in that calling and enjoyed it as well. I have been active in the LDS Church since I was 23 years old. Most of this time I have worked with the youth of the Church.
