Hi I'm Gavin Murphy

I grew up in Spring, Texas and obtained my EMT-Basic certification in high school. I'm a Mormom

About Me

I am currently serving my 2 year religious mission in Bogota, Colombia. I outdoor activities like camping, hiking, rock climbing, and slacklining. When I finish my mission I plan on attending Brigham Young University in Utah to major in Excersise Science. I also enjoy music and play the piano and harmonica. In addition, I was in choir for many years growing up until my sophmore year of high school.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family that was already highly involved in the Mormon church but I did not personally become converted and really become highly active in the church until I was about 16. During my youth I experienced many trials and struggled with things like anxiety and self doubt. During the lowest point in my trials, I decided to take a chance on God after a particular experience I had. It was at this point that I really began to pray and communicate with God with a sincere heart and really strived to feel the spirit. Having lived a life where I have both had and gone without the spirit has shown me just how powerful the spirit is. I have come to know that this gospel IS true and it was restored by Joseph Smith under the direction of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and if you take the time to read and pray about it then the Holy Ghost WILL testify of its truth unto you.

How I live my faith

Before my mission, I served as the First Assistant in my age group class. In this calling, it was my responsibility to assist the Bishop in all matters concerning the young men my age and help with anything else he needed me to do. Also, I was a hometeacher. In this role, me and my assigned partner were assigned several families to watch over and help. We would visit them at least once a month. As a priest I had the oppurtunity to help plan a whole bunch of church events such as ward socials, dances, and other things of that nature. Also, while in the young men's program I had the oppurtunity to attend many service projects.

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Gavin Murphy
As you may know, Mormons believe in the Book of Mormon. However, we do not negate the validity of the Bible. We believe the Book of Mormon is another testimony of Jesus Christ and we read the two hand in hand. Show more Show less
