Hi I'm Skyler Smith

I'm a BYU student, I'm a trumpet player, and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I grew up in a small town in Colorado called Cortez, and now I'm a student at BYU-Provo, and I love it! I'm very heavily into music, I'm a trumpet player. I play in the BYU Wind Symphony and the big band Synthesis.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because the truthfulness of the church was professed to me by the Holy Ghost. I love that our church doesn't try and convince members of the truthfulness of the church, and instead it helps people have the spirit confess its truthfulness. As I'm preparing to serve a mission, I've been studying the guidelines for the lessons we teach, and I love that they don't have any convincing facts or arguments, they instruct us to simply teach what we believe, bear our testimonies, and invite our investigators to act and feel the same spirit. No church that wasn't true would be so confident that if investigators live the gospel, the Lord will profess the church's truthfulness to them.

How I live my faith

Mormons are definitely a minority in my home town, but there were still enough church members that there were 2 or 3 of us in all of my high school classes. My non-member friends were just as helpful in helping me to live my religion, and respected the way I lived. In my student ward at BYU, I hometeach along with my roommate, and I serve as the Pa in my Family Home Evening group.

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

Skyler Smith
Men have been called to hold the priesthood. It has nothing to do with who we are or "deserving it," the Lord simply wanted some of His children to have the responsibility of holding the priesthood, and others to have other responsibilities. Priesthood holders allow God to bless others through them, but they aren't given any extra blessings, and they aren't able to bless themselves. Doctors aren't inherently more healthy than their patients, and priesthood holders aren't more blessed than others. Show more Show less
