Hi I'm Spencer Holyoak

I grew up in Tomball, Texas. I was a drum major for the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps for three years, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm Spencer from Tomball, Texas. I'm currently going to college to get a degree in Psychology so I can later pursue a career in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have a passion for music. I love to play the guitar and piano, and I played clarinet all through high school where I was also the head drum major for the the marching band for 3 years. I was also involved in the Crossmen World Class Drum and Bugle Corps, in association with Drum Corps International (DCI) for three years as a drum major. Through all of my experiences, I know that God is guiding my life and helping me to become the best person I can be!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Church, but that's not to say that I always knew that it was for me. When I graduated from high school, there was a 2-year period of my life where I was at home attending community college and working. This was the darkest time I have ever experienced in my life so far. I did some things that I regret, as everyone does at times. I felt so lost and confused. I didn't have a great relationship with my parents, and I was afraid of turning to Christ for fear of rejection or a feeling of inadequacy. During this time, I would often ask if God was really there, or if I would ever be a good person. Finally, after much prayer and searching the scriptures, I heard a song called "This is the Christ." There's a lyric in it that discusses the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and when I heard it I knew that He really did suffer and die for me. No matter how stubborn I was, no matter what I did or how many times I did it, He still loved me. That meant the world to me, and it helped me to turn the other direction. Shortly after that experience, I felt a strong need to serve a mission. About a year later, I put my papers in and was called to serve in Norway. I'm so very grateful for this opportunity, as it the same mission my late father served. I know that the Lord is in the details! I'm not perfect by any means, but I definitely identify with the saying "a saint is a sinner that keeps trying." I love this gospel. It has helped me in so many ways and truly has shed new light on my life. I know that we are all God's children and that He loves each of us individually. He knows everything we go through, no matter how trivial it may seem, and He cares about all of our trials. I love this gospel because I know that I am never alone, forgotten, or unloved. While the road may be long, windy and dark at times, I know that if we trust in the Lord, everything will go according to His plan. While it may not be the plan we envision for ourselves, it is indeed perfect.

How I live my faith

I love to study the gospel. I've always had questions about the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and I've found that if I truly do my best to find the answers, the Lord provides! I've helped teach lessons to a group of 20-40 year-old men in my church, which was such a humbling and exciting experience. I've had the opportunity to share what I have learned with the youth of this Church, which has meant so much to me. I am currently serving a church mission in Norway, and I am so excited to see what the Lord has in store for me, both during and after my mission! I know that obedience to God's laws brings blessings. It can be hard at times, but I never regret doing what I know is right. I know that my Father in Heaven has a plan for me, and that the more I trust in Him and His plan, the more peace I will have in facing the everyday trials of life.

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

Spencer Holyoak
The gift of the Holy Ghost is one of the best gifts you can ever receive. There are many times in life when you will feel lost, confused, upset, afraid, or any combination thereof. In these times of struggle, the Holy Ghost can help you feel peaceful and see the way that you must go. That isn't to say that your trials will disappear or become easier, but they will be easier to bear. In my life, the Holy Ghost has helped me to see the bigger picture, thus helping me to trust in the Lord and keep moving forward. Whether it be an awful test score, a break up, or the passing of my dear father, the Holy Ghost has always been there to help me see the silver lining and know that all will be well. I know that the Holy Ghost is the bringer of peace and truth in a world so very full of conflicting opinions and views. When the water seems to be black with mud and pollution, the Holy Ghost is always there to clear things up. Show more Show less
