Hi I'm Sam

I love mountain biking, skiing, hiking, and going to concerts. I am very excited to move to Taiwan to serve people. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Sam, and I am 18 years old. I have lived in Texas, England, California, and Utah. I love being in the outdoors and I worked as a mountain bike guide in Wyoming, and I try to ski almost every day in the winter. I currently am a college student. In a few months, I will be moving to Taiwan to serve the people there for two years, and I will be learning Mandarin Chinese. My older brother also served the people of Taiwan for 2 years as a volunteer, and my other older brother served the people of Bulgaria. I come from a very big family, with 6 kids in it. I love animals and have raised animals my whole life, including chickens, lizards, cockatiels, rabbits, salt water fish tanks, and many others. I love any opportunities to travel and see the world, and to see how others live their lives and what I can learn what I can learn from them. I love Scuba diving and love going to the ocean to Scuba dive. My father is a doctor, and one of my other brothers is studying in medical school to also become a doctor, and this is what I would also like to do. I love the sciences and am going to graduate with either a major in Neuroscience or a major in biology. My favorite sport to play is tennis, and I was on my high school team.

Why I am a Mormon

I love being a member of this church for many reasons. It is a very supportive community where many go out of their ways to try and help you. From what I have viewed from others, it is very difficult to be friendless in the church. Just as Jesus Christ sought to spread love and joy to others, members of this church seek to love everyone, and do services to others. I had the opportunity to serve as the leader of the youth group in my local church, so I witnessed firsthand just how this church changes those who choose to join it. As I witness friends and family join, the church, and a few leave, I am always amazed at the drastic changes that they experience in their own lives, for better and worse. Those who choose to throw themselves into the church find a sense of belonging, and a sense of purpose, and a sense of community. I greatly enjoy this aspect, and I love the assurances that church lends me. I wasn't active in the church for the majority of my life, but as I entered into the church I felt reassurance in my purpose in this world and what I had to do, and who I had to help. The words of Jesus Christ are a light that guide us to happiness and fulfillment.

How I live my faith

This church has many wonderful opportunities to serve your local community and communities throughout the entire world. Throughout my involvement in the church I have organized service opportunities to my local food bank, homeless shelter, and many other places where I have taken church youth to serve the community. In this church we say "When ye are in the service of your fellow man, ye are only in the service of your God" and we take that to heart as we help others. I myself have volunteered to live in Taiwan for the next two years, and am excited to reach out to the people there and see how I can help them in their lives in as many ways as possible. I have served as a leader over my local youth church group for a few years, and I have greatly enjoyed the responsibility and what I have learned.
