Hi I'm Jonah Whicker

I am number 5 in a family of 15 children. I like to play drums, take pictures, and use American Sign Language. I am a Mormon.

About Me

Some people get blessed with great families and I am one of those people. I am lucky enough to have a large family, with siblings adopted from China, Haiti, Ethiopia, and the US. In total, I have 14 siblings, including a twin brother, my best friend. Over the last few years I have developed a love for taking pictures. I'm not very good, but I think pictures and videos can help us preserve memories better than just about anything. I also love to play the drums. I hope to be able to continue playing for the rest of my life, but I don't plan on making a career out of it, although I wouldn't mind if the opportunity came up :) I am currently serving as a missionary for the LDS church in Los Angeles, California. I was assigned to learn and use American Sign Language for two years while I teach others about my faith. I am so happy for this opportunity because I have a Deaf sister that I will now be able to sign with. She was raised orally, meaning she had an emphasis on English rather than signing, but now we have the opportunities to learn together! I love this church more than I ever thought I could. If you are curious to learn more, please take the steps to contact someone who can help you learn more (this is a great website for doing just that!) thanks for reading!

Why I am a Mormon

If I were to put it simply, I would say I live the life of a Mormon for one reason: it makes me happy. Now for a more in depth explanation. I am a Mormon because this is God's church. Obviously you shouldn't just take my word for it, nor should you take the word of anyone else who makes such an audacious claim. Do as I and millions of others have done. Do a little science experiment. Live the teachings of the church, read the Book of Mormon. Pretty soon, you will start to feel within you that this is truly Christ's restored church.

How I live my faith

God has high expectations for each of us, and we should each live with the intent to reach them. I live my faith by trying to do just that, by living the things I have learned in this church. I am far from where I can and should be, but I try my best to improve every day and be an example for others to follow. I try to live as Jesus Christ did, which I can learn about from the teachings of the modern day and past prophets and church leaders, studying the scriptures, and sincere prayer. Now, as a missionary, I have the opportunity to put my whole soul into that great cause, while teaching others about their potential to change and about the many blessings given to us by a loving Father in Heaven.
