Hi I'm Spencer

I grew up in Salt Lake City. I hope to pursue a career in journalism and film studies. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently preparing to serve a mission in Portland, Oregon. I hear there is a ton of rain and that Voodoo Donuts is the donut of choice. When I get back, I plan to go to college back in Salt Lake and am still trying to decide exactly what I want to do. Whatever I decide, a major part of my education and my career will have to do with film studies, most likely paired with either a major in journalism or education.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm been a Mormon my entire life, but it was only recently that I truly became converted. Through challenges and prayer, I've learned a lot about myself and the reality of Jesus Christ. I truly understood a lot of things when I opened my mind and heart to wisdom from outside the church, such as the Wonderful Precepts in Buddhism and wise words from the Prophet Mohammed. But no matter what I read or hear, if it's positive and a work of peace, it has strengthened my testimony and has made me more willing and able to accept truth from everywhere and not be so close-minded.

How I live my faith

I was a merit badge counselor for the local Boy Scout troop this summer; I taught the Moviemaking merit badge. Even though I'm old enough to be in the adult Sunday School class, I will very often visit the Sunday School with the young men and women. I've done it so much in fact that whenever the teacher is sick or out of town, I am the go-to substitute for the class. But I don't mind, because teaching and using stories to teach is probably my favorite thing to do in church.
