Hi I'm Parker Hughes

I grew up in Salt Lake City. I'm a Vocal Performer, Eagle Scout, and Missionary.

About Me

My name is Parker, and I love to write, sing, and play songs. Music has always been my passion, because I feel it can bring a person to feel any emotion in the world. It is the purest form of expression, and I absolutely LOVE sharing my musical talents with the world. I've been a singer for most of my life, but I never shared it with anyone until I was about 15. I experienced a lot of struggle in my early years due to being bullied, so I didn't really make strong friendships with anyone because I felt that betrayal could come from anyone, and that the next stab in the back would happen just as soon as I turned a corner. I went through a stage where I felt very alone. I found myself getting lost in reading books about fantasy worlds I wished more than anything that I could be a part of. I convinced myself that I had no friends because of my own mistakes. I became depressed and distant from my family, my friends, and my faith. One day, my mom told me she was tired of seeing me waste my potential on self-doubt and self-loathing. She told me about the school musical, and encouraged me to audition. I took the challenge, and in an event that was nothing short of a miracle, I received a major role in the show. I went from being a social outcast to one of the most known people in school in a single weekend. Because of this event, I constantly try to keep including those around me who haven't found where they fit in yet, so maybe I can be the driving force to help others find purpose.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the church, but living the way members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints do from birth comes with it's own set of extreme challenges. I experienced a lot of trouble with being bullied through my elementary and early middle-school experience, so I struggled a lot when I was dealing with the worst trials in my life throughout the week, only to go to church every Sunday to hear about a God who cared about me and everything that happened to me was because of His love. I was so confused, because I didn't understand how my struggles could be the product of any form of love. I searched for answers in whatever ways I could, but the answers I was wanting weren't the ones I got. I finally decided that if I had to deal with this much strife and pain, maybe the people around me didn't have to. I started channeling my pain and envy into hope and joy for others. I became closer to Christ than I ever could have if I had never struggled at all. Christ went through all kinds of pain and suffering, but in enduring to the end, He was able to overcome all challenges He faced and all the challenges anyone in the world ever had or ever will face. I do my best to follow His example every day so I can bring others unto Him.

How I live my faith

I am currently a Missionary serving in the Rome, Italy mission. I constantly live my faith because at the moment, my faith is my life. I know that this opportunity will allow me to be a much better teacher and a better husband and father in the future. I constantly am learning patience and diligence, and I am faced with physical and spiritual trials every day. Being a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in a country filled with mostly Roman-Catholics and Atheists is incredibly challenging, because the people are usually very adamant in the faith they already have, or are adamant in not having faith at all. I constantly strive to be a good example through service, love, and sometimes food! My MTC teacher taught me that "Food is the Key to the Heart," so I will work really hard on a recipe sometimes, and then take my skills and my knowledge to our investigators homes!
