Hi I'm Lyle

I was born in Los Angeles, California and grew up in nearby Compton. I love my family and I love the great outdoors.

About Me

I grew up in Compton California and as an only child of wonderful, loving parents, had an idyllic childhood. I graduated as an electrical engineer from California State University – Long Beach and enjoyed a rewarding career in the electric utility business. In retirement, I find that I am busier than ever. Along life’s path, I fell in love with a beautiful woman who has been my best friend and trusted counselor for 36 years. We are the parents of two beautiful children – blessings from Heaven. I have discovered a passion for gardening and for being in the great outdoors, having hiked to most of the mountain tops in Southern California. The greatest impact upon my life was finding the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

In spite of a blessed home life growing up, I became profoundly unhappy as a young adult. I felt there had to be something better in life than what I was experiencing. As I searched for answers, I found the greatest peace as I read the words of Jesus Christ in the New Testament. His words began to be a guide for me and I eventually came in contact with the missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I was shocked to learn that they believed there was a prophet upon the earth today – like a Moses, or an Abraham. More surprising was what I experienced as I read The Book of Mormon. On several occasions I felt pure knowledge pour into my soul, not as a result of some effort on my part, but as totally unexpected, independent events. I soon learned that The Book of Mormon was the word of God, as was The Bible and that there was in fact a living prophet upon the earth today with the same mission as Moses – to be God’s mouthpiece on earth. These experiences led to my baptism, where I further learned that there was not only a baptism of water, but of fire (Matthew 3:11). In short, I am a Mormon, because I believe this is the true restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

Up until my recent retirement, I would work a regular work week and then some, spend time with family and usually make a visit or two during the week to church members. Saturdays were filled with family activities and home work projects. Then the tools were laid aside on Sunday as we attended church as a family and enjoyed family time together. With retirement, I have more discretionary time and use it to build upon our family tree by seeking out deceased family members from an amazing amount of sources available on the internet. Most powerful is service at the Church’s temples. Serving there is truly a heavenly work. I love the power of the atonement of Jesus Christ, for that is what gives me hope in the future. I am far from perfect, but hope that as I try to overcome my weaknesses, I can be forgiven of them, because of the Lord’s atoning sacrifice on my behalf.
