Hi I'm Debra Ellis

I was born in Idaho. I graduated from college and taught secondary education. I'm a Mormon and a convert.

About Me

I am married to my husband, Kim, of 43 wonderful years. We have 3 grown children and 12 grandchildren. I am a retired secondary education teacher, teaching in the field of Family and Consumer Economics. Many people relate that subject to Home Economics. During that time I was also a volleyball coach for the middle school for 15 years. As you can tell from my career choice I love to cook, sew and do hand work like cross stitching. I also enjoy reading and camping. My most favorite thing is to spoil my grandchildren. Fortunately they don't live too far from me. My husband and I enjoy working and playing together and he is my best friend.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was young I had a friend whom I went to school with. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. My friend invited me to an activity called Primary. I enjoyed going to Primary with my friend and as I got older I continued going to her church. I was baptized when I was 13 years old. I really enjoyed playing girls basketball and volleyball as part of the Young Women's program and that help me to continue my interest in the church along with attending girls camp every summer. Even though temptations came into my life and I wasn't always strong enough to avoid them. I leaned on the strength of those around me who helped me to grow and feel the Savior's love for me more deeply. My testimony grew more with each passing day and I knew that I was a loved daughter of my Heavenly Father. After my sealing in the Temple to my husband I have felt that love and peace grow more as I raised our children. I knew that they were also precious children of God and that by our example and teachings we could be an eternal family together forever.

How I live my faith

From the time I became a convert to the church I have been a youth leader working with the youth. I love to work and be around them because of their energy and zest for life. I have found that by being sincere and a good example to them they are able to open up and trust me. They fill me with joy and wonder. Part of my time is visiting with other ladies within the church and because of this I have developed life long friends. They help to enrich my life. As a Family and Consumer Science Teacher I was also able to help the youth and adults to learn skills in cooking by working in a church teaching kitchen.
