Hi I'm Rachel

I'm a student, I'm a musician, I'm a friend, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest of eight siblings. I had lived my entire life in Salt Lake City. I believed my parents were going to live in that house untill they died. It's the same house my Grandpa grew up in, and I don't know if anyone lived in that house before my Grandpa's parents lived in it. But my senior year of high school, our community environment was going to change vastly in a way that we did not want to adjust to. The idea of moving came up as it had many times before, as a joke and barely worth considering. But then we started looking at houses. And then we decided on one, and now we live in a small city that feels like a country town. It's been delightful. I am attending college and am soon to go on my mission. I've always been a book worm. I love learning, and I love stories, so books are a good method for getting all of that. I also love patterns, so whether I find them in a painting or on a license plate, I'm always super excited. That may be why I love music so much. And by music, I generally mean the classical style of music. I've loved it since my mom and dad have ever remembered. I love to sing, play the piano and the clarinet. I love to write music. But I think my favorite thing with music is teaching it. There's something about making kids excited about something I love to do that makes me more excited to do it and more excited to teach it.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon not because my parents raised me in the religion-which they did- and not because it's something to do on Sundays-which it is- but because I genuinely believe this Church: the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is the only church on the Earth today that has every one of the truths and authorities of the church Jesus Christ set up while He ministered on the Earth. I love Jesus Christ and His Father and I know that I can get no closer to Them than I can by being a member of the church Christ set up. Just like I can get no closer to my mom than by honoring her. I honor God and His Son by keeping those commandments. I am grateful my religion is a part of my life because I have no idea what I would be doing if I were not part of it. My choice to be religious has made me better, and I'm grateful for the opportunity.

How I live my faith

Ever since I began attending a program for teenage girls, called the Young Women program, I have played the piano for our meetings. It wasn't only me. But that has been an opportunity that has helped shape me and gave me a chance to serve the Lord and my fellow members in a wonderful way. Since then I have served by selecting music for my congregation, which we sing for our most sacred meeting of the week. I also have had the opportunity to serve as a missionary to those who live near me and also to visit and teach some of the women in my congregation. I am now preparing to serve 24/7 as a missionary for 18 months in Brazil. I didn't know I was going to serve in Brazil until after I began preparing for my mission, just as Moses probably had no clue he was going to serve as prophet for a group of people he really did not know personally. God told Moses who to serve, and He told our prophet today who I needed to serve. The people He needed me to serve just happen to be in Brazil.
