Hi I'm Caleb Sly

I play the piano and a bit of soccer. I grew up in Utah. I am a Mormon

About Me

I love playing the piano and trombone. I'd like to think I'm pretty good at both. I played soccer for teams throughout my youth. I'm planning on attending BYU after my mission. I debated in highschool, specifically in Lincoln Douglass. I love solving Rubik's Cubes and generally doing any sort of puzzle. I'm a goofball and a fun lover.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have felt the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is how God communicates with us individually. For me, it is a feeling of peace and comfort. Everyone, all over the world, will tell you different things. When people talk to me about God, I listen politely and then I pray to God to ask if what they said is true. The best way to learn about God is to talk to Him. If I wanted to learn where my neighbour was born, I would ask him. It would be silly to ask some random stranger where my neighbour was born. The same principle applies with God. If I want to learn more about God, I ask Him. The way I do that is through prayer. Prayer, to me, is a conversation with God. I ask Him questions, or thank Him for things, and he answers through the Holy Ghost. Through feelings like peace and comfort. So why am I a Mormon? Because I've asked Him if this church is true. I've asked Him if the Book of Mormon is true. And I have felt the Holy Ghost answer my prayer. It witnesses to me that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is true. I'm not a Mormon because my mom told me to be, or I grew up in it. I'm a Mormon because I have felt the Holy Ghost for MYSELF!

How I live my faith

I live my faith currently as a missionary (one who shares the faith). Full time, I spread the gospel or teachings of Jesus Christ and invite all to come unto Him. I study every morning from scriptures such as the Book of Mormon. I pray every morning and night and many times throughout the day. I attend church every week and constantly strive to draw closer to Christ.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Caleb Sly
The Atonement is just a fancy word for the event in which Christ paid for our sins. To "atone" simply means to "pay". The word "payment" refers to an event in which something was paid. Similarly, the Atonement refers to the event in which Christ paid for our sins. What does it mean to pay for our sins? No unclean thing can dwell with God. The whole point of this life is to return to God. So how do we do so when we sin, or do something bad? Through the Atonement. Christ paid for our sins so that we can be clean and return to live with God. Show more Show less
