Hi I'm Daela-Kate

Hello! I enjoy service projects. I am currently a student at BYU Provo waiting to serve a mission. I am a Mormon and I love it.

About Me

My name is Daela-Kate Larson and I am a student at Brigham Young University, even though I still cheer for U of U football; but don't tell anyone else that. ;) I love to read fantasy and fiction books and I am totally one of those Pinterest people. I was born and raised in a little town in Utah which I have loved! I work in a little bakery and basically pretend I am in a Nicholas Sparks movie. I like to go mountain biking and swimming. I absolutely love the Marvel Avenger series and hope to one day invent Iron Man's computer system. One last thing is that I love people and I love to do service projects. Putting together projects and fundraisers is one way that I like to serve, feel good, and keep busy.

Why I am a Mormon

To put it very simply, I am a member of this church because I know it is true. I know that it is true without a shadow of a doubt. Sometimes my life gets hard, (quite often actually), but with the knowlege that I have of the gospel, I know that it will get better because my Father in heaven did not put me here on earth to be sad. He loves us, his children, and wants us to have a happy life. We have to be taken out of our comfort zone sometimes, but it the end it will be okay. I would like to bear my testimony that I know this is true. I grew up in a Mormon home, however, I had to learn for myself that this was the true church. After going through certain experiences, and praying a lot, I have come to know that Jesus Christ lives and he is our Savior. He and His Father appeared to the boy Joseph Smith who brought to pass the entirety of the gospel in our day and age. I know that President Monson is our prophet today and he receives guidance for the whole church. This gospel makes me happy and I want other people to be as happy as I am. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Being an example is one way I live my faith. In Matthew 5:14-16, there is a scripture about a candle set on a hill that is small, but gives light to everyone that is looking. It also says "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.." I hope to live my life like this. I am preparing now to serve a mission and I want everything that I do to show that I am a member of the Church of Latter-day Saints and I am trying to do my best to follow God. Another way is through service. I am passionate about doing service projects. Fundraisers, making hygiene kits, and serving in small ways are things that make me happy. A scripture in Mosiah 2:17 says, ". . . when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." This is how I try to do service. Not so I can put it on a resume, but so I can actually, physically help others have a better situation than they are currently in. I love to feel like I am actually making that difference and show others that the gospel makes me happy enough to do things like that.

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

1 Nephi 3:7 is Nephi saying, "And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them." The Lord commanded some of the Saints in the early church to practice polygamy at that point in time. However, the Lord told the later leaders that it was not required anymore. Today, the law of marriage is monogamy and it will stay that way until the Lord commands it to be anything else. Show more Show less
