Hi I'm Gavin

I grew up in Arizona and go to school in Utah. I enjoy reading books and watching movies. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Arizona and am now at college in Utah. One of my hobbies is sports. I enjoy playing and watching sports. My favorite sport to both play and watch is basketball, but I also enjoy a number of other sports, including baseball, soccer, and football. I also enjoy reading books, both fictional and non-fictional. One of my favorite book series is Harry Potter. Lastly, I enjoy watching movies and television shows. I particularly enjoy watching movies or shows in the adventure genre where you never know where the movie/show will take you.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that this church is true. I know that the doctrine taught in our books of scripture can and will help us to live better lives and find happiness. It leads us on the path to live with our families together forever and return to God. I also know that by being a member of this church, I can have the Holy Spirit guide me if I am righteous enough to hear the Spirit. For example, when I was younger my dog was attacked and killed. This affected me greatly and made me sadder than I ever remember being. However, I can distinctly remember that in a moment of great sadness, I felt a sense of peace and comfort that could not have come from me. I know that that feeling was the Spirit and my Heavenly Father giving me comfort that everything would be alright. Although my dog was not miraculously saved, I know without a doubt that my Heavenly Father knew the pain and suffering I was going through and was there to help me through that.

How I live my faith

Something that I love about this church is the opportunity to be apart of a community that shares your same values and can help uplift you. One way that I can do this for others is to complete my assigned role. Every member of the church is given a 'job' to do in order to ensure that we can function well and smoothly. We call this 'job' a calling. Your calling may be large or small, easy or time consuming. For example, your calling may be to teach a certain age group of children, or to be a secretary and write notes during meetings. A calling that I had in the past was to be the leader, or president, of the boys aged 14-16. I would focus on a number of things as the leader of those boys, from planning fun activities and organizing service to making sure everyone felt as if they were a valuable part of the group.
