Hi I'm Hayden

I grew up near Seattle. I love musical theatre. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm from western Washington. The youngest of three and in middle school I found out that a great way to get the attention I craved was to perform in musicals. Most of all I love music, I feel like I can do almost anything as long as I'm listening to a good song. When I'm not singing or playing the piano I love reading and running. I'm currently a student in Provo at Brigham Young University, planning to complete my first year of my undergraduate degree before serving my mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a Mormon. That being said, I have not always been converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ. When I began to grow my talents in musical theatre and use them, I began to be cast in shows which would rehearse and perform on Sundays, as well as frequently throughout the week. This meant I would spend little time with the people of great faith I had grown accustomed to being around. I then was away from the light I had gotten used to, and darkness began to fill my life. I began to fall into dangerous ways of thinking, which were centered on myself and self-gratification. Luckily, because of my parents' decision to send me to a week long Mormon based summer camp, I soon discovered the power in the scriptures I had never truly noticed before. I also noticed what terrible decisions I had been making in my life. After that, I decided to obey the commandments, even if that meant choosing not to perform on Sunday so that I could be obedient to His commandments, and happier for doing so. There have been times of great struggle since then. At times, I have moved far away from the church, needing to be saved by my saint-like friends, but through it all I have seen that the more obedient I am to the commandments and keeping the promises I make in church, the more happy I am. Conversely, the farther I try to distance myself from God, the more turbulent and unhappy my life becomes. Overall, being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and living its teachings has filled me with joy, which is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Living my faith is a daily process. That being said, it may be as small as trying to make another person smile or holding the door open for another. It may also be as great as scripture study or frequent prayers. Through my faith, I have learned that the greatest, purest form of happiness comes from being with and serving others. This is why I seek to be social and involved. The way I do this the most is by using my talents in musical theatre to be apart of different performing groups. When in those groups, I try to treat everyone the way Christ would treat them. I often struggle with this, but the rewards for practicing humility, patience and love with my fellow man have been incredible, even miraculous.
