Hi I'm Mary

I'm a student at BYU. I'm kind of obsessed with Jane Austen and I could eat nothing but chocolate. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the only girl in a family of 4 boys, and my brothers are my best friends. I love to read and watch movies; I'm a sucker for a good story. I started college this past summer but am now preparing to serve a full-time mission in the Idaho, Nampa mission. I'm not sure what I'm going to major in, I keep changing my mind. I was born and lived most of my life Ohio but have lived Okinawa, Japan for several years. The island and the friendships I have made there mean so much to me.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be Christ's church on the earth today. My parents both grew up members and have raised my siblings and me in the church. It has always been a part of my life and an outsider could say I think it is true simply because it is what I have always known. I realized this as a younger teenager, and so I resolved to find out for myself if this church was really Christ's church. I studied the Book of Mormon and the Bible and I learned about Joseph Smith. I attended church and listened to what the teachers were trying to tell me. When compared with other philosophies, everything made sense and I wanted it to be true. I loved the principles of the gospel, I thought, and still think, that they are beautiful and full of hope. But I am not a member of this church simply because it makes sense. I am a Mormon because of the quiet burning in my heart whenever I read my scriptures or I go to church or I reach out in prayer to God. When I read about Joseph Smith's account of seeing Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, I feel a peace and warmth that makes it impossible for me to deny it. It is the Spirit that Christ once promised to His apostles to comfort them that manifests over and over again that this is Christ's church, that it is full of light and truth, and that I can return to Heavenly Father's presence with my family forever if I live the principles of the gospel.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by learning all I can about the gospel through study, and doing my best to use that knowledge to improve my life, as well as other's lives. I love reading and learning about the scriptures. The words of Jesus Christ satisfy a deep need that I have for spiritual guidance and comfort. Prayer is also a way I express my faith. I am so grateful that I can talk to my Heavenly Father wherever I am and share with Him the feelings of my heart. I feel His love when I pray. I try my best to reach out to others and help them feel this love as well, which is perhaps the most important way I live my faith. I to church every Sunday to gain strength and hopefully give strength to those around me who are also striving to return to their Heavenly Father. When I am not at church, I do my best to love and serve those around me, as I feel Christ would serve them.
