Hi I'm Ali

I am studying to become a chemical engineer. I enjoy reading, crochet, and playing piano. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently a college student studying to become a chemical engineer. I think chemistry is fascinating and I'm constantly amazed by it's complexity and practical applications. I hope to pursue a higher degree with an emphasis on biochemistry which I will use to study treatment options for auto-immune diseases. In high school I had the opportunity to participate in various school musicals which has lead to a slight obsession with show-tunes. I enjoy all genres of theater, but am partial to the plays of Henrik Ibsen and Shakespeare. I have celiac disease which prevents me from eating gluten so sometimes I get mistaken as a food hipster. But trust me, if I could eat bread without getting sick I would. I enjoy reading, baking, crocheting, playing piano, and hanging out with my family. One of my biggest dreams is to travel to Denmark.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because the gospel of Jesus Christ has brought more joy and peace to my life than anything else I have ever experienced. I can be forgiven of sins and strengthened during trails because of Christ's Atonement. As I child I suffered from various health problems that left me feeling alone and unimportant. I started reading the Bible and Book of Mormon searching for answers as to why God would allow these struggles to happen to me. I felt unloved and forgotten. I eventually prayed to know if I really was a child of God and if he loved me. As I prayed I felt an overwhelming outpouring of love. It was a feeling of warmth and peace which confirmed to me that God loves me and that he has a plan for me in this life. Since that day I have continued to pray and study scripture in an effort to gain a deeper understanding of spiritual things. Though study and prayer I have developed a testimony of the truthfulness of the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and of modern day prophets. I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is Christ's church restored to the earth. I see how my life is blessed when I follow gospel principles and keep commandments; I am happier, kinder, and continually growing.

How I live my faith

I have the opportunity to play piano for my local congregation. I get to practice a few hymns each week and then play for the general congregation and on occasion for the choir. I do my best to serve my community; one way is by donating crochet baby hats and blankets to local hospitals.
