Hi I'm Garrett

I love the outdoors and physical activity. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm an Eagle scout and deep supporter of the scouting program's values. I love playing pick-up games of basketball and am obsessed with anything scientific. Also, I speak Mandarin Chinese and will be serving a mission for the LDS church in Taiwan.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know it is what God wants. When I was a twelve year-old boy I felt a pressing desire to pray to God to see if he was there, and to know if the LDS church contained His full gospel. I did not know how to pray to God for what I knew I wanted to feel, and as I pondered how to go about it our home's doorbell rang. It was the two missionaries that were assigned to labor in our congregation. we invited them in, and they explained that they had come to our home because they simply felt like they should visit our family. I felt in my mind that if anyone could show me how to pray to God for knowledge, it was the missionaries. Almost immediately upon their arrival I called to them from the top of our stair landing and asked them how they prayed in general. The missionary who responded first explained to me how he prayed. With his words in my heart I retreated to my bedroom, closed the door, and knelt to offer one of my first real, sincere prayers in the manner that the missionary had instructed. Before I could even utter my first words in that prayer I felt an overpowering emotion of joy and gratitude. I felt God's love for me so immensely that I no longer had any question of his existence. I knew right then and there that God was real, and that his gospel was fully present in the LDS church. The testimony I felt, the emotions that were then conceived in my chest are beyond explaining with words. However, that experience does give me words: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true. It is God's church restored to this Earth through the prophet Joseph Smith. God is real. Christ is real and is very truly everyone's savior. I know these things because I have felt them beyond doubt. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by visiting others in their homes and listening to them. I perform services for anyone who asks in need, and I smile while I do so. I attend my congregations meetings and any of our church related activities that I can. I also live my faith by keeping my language clean and by supporting others in their good desires.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

We believe that the purpose of life is to learn to choose the right and to gain a physical body. We believe that while in this Earth we should learn and grow, that we should strive to gain skills and understanding, that we should learn to control our bodies, and that we should obey all of God's commands. We believe that by doing these things we can then live with God in heaven and have eternal joy and happiness there. Show more Show less
