Hi I'm Monica Christiansen

I grew up in Utah. I love music, ultimate frisbee, penguins, and puns. I'm a Mormon. :)

About Me

The first thing to know about me is that I love puns. ...A lot. :) I guess one could say that a good pun is it's own reword. ;) Besides that, I also enjoy being involved in music, and participating in activities such as ultimate frisbee, most other sports, and reading good books. Learning new instruments is something that I particularly enjoy, though I'm kind-of a jack-of-all trades, master-of-none kind of gal. I sing, play piano, violin, string bass (which is now my primary instrument and the one that I would consider myself the most competent in), guitar, and I know the basics of the flute, trumpet, some other brass instruments, etc. I've been to college as a music major for two years, and I'm considering becoming a music teacher in the future. I might want to teach English and/or religion classes, as well--we'll see what the future brings! I'm also currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and I've been called to serve in the California, Ventura mission. :)

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true church, and the only church that has the fullness of truth on the Earth today. I was raised in the Mormon religion, but when I was in my early teen years, I began to question whether or not the church that I had grown up in was true. I attended seminary (a place where youth go to learn more about the Gospel), I read from the Book of Mormon, and I prayed to God to know whether or not the church was true. I remember reading from my scriptures one time, and just feeling this good feeling inside, and I knew that what I was reading was true. It took some time and dedication, but I was able to grow even stronger in the knowledge that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true church. I have been blessed with a lot of faith in God; I know that He is my Heavenly Father, and that He loves me personally and dearly. I have a testimony in my Savior, Jesus Christ; in the prophet today, President Thomas S. Monson; in the prophet who restored the Gospel to the Earth, Joseph Smith; and in the Book of Mormon, which is the word of God and another testament of Jesus Christ. The Gospel means so much to me, because of who it has helped me to become. I am extremely grateful for the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Because of Christ's Atonement, I know that I can change and become better. God is so good, and even though life can be extremely difficult, I know that I am also very blessed.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by turning to God. When hard times come (which they do for everyone), I have found comfort through the Spirit in turning to God through prayer and through scripture study. My faith has increased as I have relied on God and on my Savior Jesus Christ, and I have truly felt Their support through both good and bad times. God is so good to us, and I truly believe that He loves all of His children! :) I live my faith by seeking to gain more knowledge. I like to try to live my life in a way where I feel like I am growing and improving. Sometimes, I'm not as successful at this as I'd like to be, but I believe in change, and that I can become better. Change is possible because of and through Jesus Christ! :) I live my faith by striving to apply the principles that I learn into my life. For example, the Gospel of Jesus Christ blesses families, and I see that in my own life as I live my faith. I have a large family, with five older brothers and one little sister, as well as six step-siblings (two step-brothers and a step-sister from my Dad's remarriage, and two step-brothers and a step-sister from my Mom's remarriage). I haven't always gotten along with all of my family or had the best relationships with them. However, I have seen that as I have grown a closer relationship with God and have sought to follow Jesus Christ's example, I have been able to become a better daughter, sister, step-daughter, step-sister, and friend, and my relationships with my family have definitely improved! I feel that I have been able to be more quick to ask for forgiveness for the many mistakes I make, and I feel like I have been blessed with the strength to be able to more easily forgive others as well. I live my faith by being involved! I love attending my ward, and I like to be available to participate as much as needed. Helping with the music is something that I love to do, and I also enjoy sharing my thoughts or experiences in meetings where sharing is encouraged.
