Hi I'm Devan

I grew up in Utah, and I love the great outdoors! Hiking, biking, and camping are my passions. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I'm a missionary serving in the Oklahoma, Oklahoma City mission. I was born in Utah, and grew up with my six sisters. I'm at my best when I'm outside whether I'm mountain biking, hiking, or camping. I was on the cross country mountain biking team in high school. I worked at a candy store for a few years before I left on my mission, so I know my way around a taffy puller. I love my family and my dog Ranger. I love Oklahoma and the people here now, even though the weather is crazy!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, and like many, who grow up with something constanty, I took it for granted. When I became a teenager and had many more influences in my life than just my parents and ward members, I began to doubt. I thought that it wasn't for me. I kept attending church with these doubts, but it wasn't until I was mature enough to understand the gospel better and why it is necessary that I started putting effort in. I found that you can't coast in belief. It requires work, or the progress you make dwindles and fades. Many of my friends never reached that turning point, it was a poignant example to me of a choice I had to become fully converted, or fall away completely. I chose to commit to being a better member of the church and I have been so much happier. The people in the church are a mixed bag, but that is to be expected we all have agency even within the gospel. I've learned to love the lord and accept his will. I have a testimony that it is the truth. That's why I'm a mormon.

How I live my faith

I'm active in my ward through the home teaching program. Along with a teaching companion, I am assigned to a specific family to visit each month and share a message about the gospel with them. We use these visits to make sure each families needs are being met, and provide aid if necessary. I am going to leave soon to serve a mission and for two years, I will put aside all my personal ambitions, and devote all my time and efforts to the Lord. I will go to a strange place to teach people about the gospel and if they decide it is right for them, I will help them on their path to membership.
