Hi I'm Ivan Collier

I grew up in Texas. I joined the church through my best friend in high school. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy classic games such as Legend of Zelda and Pokemon. In high school I developed a love for football, and watch and play it to this day. I am currently a student in college studying animal science, a degree i pursue due to my love of animals.

Why I am a Mormon

I chose to join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as a result of several distinct events in my life that span almost 7 years. First, my best friend in high school introduced me to the church by simply talking to me about it, followed by him inviting me to come and visit one Sunday. Although it was an enlightening experience, seemingly nothing came of it. Almost 6 years later, I had come to live with his family, and was invited to watch a broadcast with them in which the Prophet of the church addressed members worldwide, also known as general conference. My friend's mother asked all who were present to pray about a question that we wanted answered, and that we should listen intently to the speakers and their messages to find an answer to our prayers. I prayed to know whether or not the church was true, and whether or not the Book of Mormon was true, then watched and waited. At a certain point in the conference, one of the speakers gave a talk about a certain topic that, in my mind, seemed to be directed at me specifically. I felt something in myself that I had never felt before, a deep, stirring warmth that moved me to my very core and convinced me that I needed to be baptized. Since then, I have faced many obstacles and trials that tested my will, resolve, and my faith in Christ. But through it all, I've been able to rely on The Lord and come through the flames more refined than when i first stepped into them. My faith in Christ has led to a testimony that has softened my own heart in many ways, and allow me to be a greater example of a disciple of Christ to those around me, as well as softening the hearts of those who were once incredibly against me joining the church.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by staying true to the teachings of the church. Many of the people that I interact with on a daily basis, including my family, are not members of the church, and a good number of them do not understand or disagree with my beliefs as a result. Being able to convey beliefs of the church as well as personal beliefs in a positive and loving manner is another way that I live my faith. In college, I had the opportunity to home teach, and it blessed not only those that were taught and prayed for, but it also blessed myself and my teaching companions.
