Hi I'm Tom

I've grown up in Utah my whole life and have been a Mormon my whole life. I'm now serving a mission in Manchester England.

About Me

I love sports, particularly basketball, but I'll play any sport at any time. I played on my high school basketball team and follow the NBA closely. After my mission I'll be starting college at Utah State University and hope to major in something to do with business but haven't decided for sure yet. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family and love doing stuff with them. At the same time though, I enjoy having quiet time and times when I can sit back and relax. I love food and I love to eat, I'd say it's one of my favorite hobbies.

Why I am a Mormon

The biggest reason why I choose to live the gospel in my life is because of the happiness it brings me and I know it's true. I would be completely lost in this life without the gospel. I wouldn't know why I am here on this earth. I wouldn't know what my purpose of this life would be and I would have an emptiness inside that would cause me great pain. The gospel answers these questions and helps give my life direction. I know that I won't be led astray and that if I follow the principles that are taught, I will be happy. There was a time in my life where I wasn't doing what I should be doing in terms of staying strong in the gospel. I found it to be too much of a burden and I didn't have the motivation to do everything because it is hard work. I never was a bad kid as I still led my life well but I started to notice the emptiness inside. I wasn't living life as I should and the result was that I wasn't happy. The trials in my life were very difficult for me to handle and I felt lost. I looked at myself long and hard after a particularly rough day in my life and I thought to myself, "what am I doing with my life?" I knew that I didn't have to live life this way and so I turned to my Heavenly Father for help. I started doing what I've been told all my life to do and I can not even begin to tell you how much that has helped me in my life. That emptiness inside me went away. I had help with all the trials that I faced in my life. The best thing of all? I was happy again. I was living life the way I'm supposed to and the blessings I got from it were amazing and while a lot of work, it was totally worth it. I am a Mormon because I know that this is the proper way to live life. I know that this is the way to live so that we may have eternal life and be with our families for eternity. It brings me so much happiness and joy that I don't even want to think about living life any other way. I know it to be true, I have received witness of it. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I try my best to live my faith everyday in my life. It all starts with prayer and scripture study. Every morning, I wake up and immediately hop off my bed to my knees and say a prayer. I give thanks for all that our Heavenly Father has done for us and then I talk to him about my day and what I want help with and ask for him to be with me always. Sometime during the day, usually in the morning, I'll read my scriptures. I don't just read my scriptures, but I really try to study them and learn from them. I then ponder how I can take what I learn and apply it in my life to help make me happier and a better person. I also pray every night before I go to bed. I again give thanks for everything that He has done for us and then I reflect on my day with Him. I go over what I did well but also what I need to do better and ask for help again. Every Sunday, I go to church. I am still a youth and so I participate in the churches youth programs and help take care of all the responsibilities that we have. I try my best to be actively involved with everything going on and, just like when reading the scriptures, I take what I learn every week and apply it into my life so that I may become a better person. Once a month, my dad and I go home teaching where we go to the homes of some of the members of our ward and teach them a lesson. But not only do we teach them a lesson, we visit and talk with them for a while and I've come to take an interest in their lives and they have become my friends. I'm not perfect, no one is, but I try my best to live my faith in my life everyday and to take care of my responsibilities because it will help me with my life and I have a testimony of that.
