Hi I'm Melanie Marie Franks

I grew up in beautiful central Utah. I am serving a mission in Richmond Virginia. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I grew up in small town USA! I love basketball and softball and being outside. But more than anything I love this Gospel. I love the messages of hope and love that come from it. I have been called to serve in the Virginia Richmond Mission and am more than excited to go and share this beautiful gospel with the people there.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of this amazing church all my life. My parents both served missions for the church and have been great examples to me throughout my life. When I was young it was easy to lean on their testimonies because they were so strong but as I have grown older I have gained one of my own. I love this gospel. I know its the true and living church. I know God answers our prayers and provides us with help and strength and comfort I have seen it in my own life. It has been a great blessing to live as a member of this church.

How I live my faith

I have served as a youth leader in my church on several occasions. But because there is a small amount of youth all of us work together. We have done numerous service projects for the town and community that have helped me love the people I live among but more than that it has helped me to love to serve the people I live around.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Melanie Marie Franks
A testimony is a spiritual witness given to individuals by the power of the Holy Ghost. Testimonies are founded on knowing that Heavenly Father truly lives and he knows us each by name and he loves us. Also that Jesus Christ lives and he came to this earth to atone for the sins of mankind. Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God who was called by Heavenly Father to restore the Gospel to the world. A testimony is based on faith of things unseen but that we know are true. Show more Show less

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Melanie Marie Franks
Mormons live a certain way because we believe that God puts in place commandments for us to follow to keep us safe from sin and harm. We believe that coffee, tea, alcohol and other substances are bad for our health. We dress modestly to discourage bad and immoral thoughts and actions and because we believe that our bodies are gifts from God and they should be protected and covered. We keep the Sabbath day holy by attending our church meetings and refraining from doing activities that are not Sabbath day appropriate. God sent us here to be happy and have joy and by keeping the commandments of our Heavenly Father we do find happiness. Show more Show less

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Melanie Marie Franks
The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the most important event in the history of the world. It was when Jesus Christ gave his own life for ours. He suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane and "bled from every pore". He hung on the cross at Calvary and there he died. Why was it necessary for him to go through such pain? Because in order for us to return to heaven and reside with God and Jesus Christ we had to have someone to balance out our imperfections and sins because no unclean thing can reside in the presence of God. For us to use the atonement and wash away our sins we must repent of them, be baptized and confirmed by one having the authority from God to do so and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, obey God's commandments, receive sacred ordinances and strive to be like him.
