Hi I'm Joshua

I was born and raised in Utah. I'm studying to become a music composer. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm currently studying to become a composer. My dream is to be able to write scores for movies and create music that will inspire people. When I was 6 years old, my mother started teaching me the piano. Normally, my parents started my siblings at the age of 8. Me and my younger sister are the exceptions because of our enthusiasm and desire to start learning. When I started 7th grade, I started learning the trumpet. In 8th grade I started to learn the French Horn and Clarinet. In 9th grade I started learning the Alto-Sax, the Trombone, and the Mellophone. Every year since I've at least started to learn another instrument or just learned a little more detail about some instrument I know less about. After playing with a wide variety of bands and ensembles throughout highschool and touring with these groups to many places including Mexico and New York (where I performed at Carnegie Hall) I decided that the performing life isn't for me. I was studying Math in college but decided to switch into the music program. However, I've struggled to get in. Through prayer and inspiration, I came to realize that I needed to serve God in order to get his help so I can study music. While serving Him, I started to arrange various hymns and other songs and realized that's what I enjoy doing. I know all about all of these instruments and the only way to use all of them is to compose. I pray that when I finish serving God he will continue to guide me and help me with my goals in music.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family with both parents being strong and faithful members. My parents taught me what is right and wrong. However, this is not the reason I have remained a member myself. I am a Mormon because it gives me meaning in life. There are many good decisions I have made because of my knowledge of God and His gospel and because of the guidance of His Holy Spirit. Also, there have been many poor decisions I have not made because of this same knowledge and guidance. Only since the end of my teenage years have I really discovered the peace and happiness brought to me by living the gospel of Jesus Christ. As I have gotten older, life has gotten harder. There have been times when literally all I have had to motivate me and keep me going is this great gospel.

How I live my faith

Because I've grown up in the church, I have had many opportunities to serve others within the church and outside the church. One of the biggest things I've done is while a teenager I was called into the Deacon's Quorum presidency, the Teachers Quorum presidency, and the Priests Quorum presidency. My responsibilities in these callings was to help the other male teenagers within my ward. I was a leader to sometimes up to 20 other youth my same age. I helped these other boys to do good through service and the Boy Scouts of America program. We visited the elderly, the sick, and the lonely. We helped those struggling in simple ways, like taking care of their yard for them. We also served in more religious ways by preparing the Sacrament on sundays, collecting fast offerings, and blessing the sick. Some other callings of mine have been to play the organ during church services and to lead the congregation in music.
