Hi I'm Samuel A. Madsen, Sr

I am a retired diplomat and military officer. I am a youth leader, an avid outdoors man and student of history. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a retired diplomat and former military officer. I love the outdoors, history, crafts, reading, movies and spending time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a fourth generation member of the church, with my Great grandfather Madsen being the first member in our family (back in the 1850s). However, I have looked at the doctrines and practices of the Church, studied the scriptures and teachings and sought Heavenly Father's guidance as to its truthfulness. By this process I long ago received the spiritual assurance that this Church is manifestation of the Lord's kingdom here on the earth

How I live my faith

I serve the Lord through service in the Church and the community. I am called to work with the Scouting program, as an emergency communications specialist and in the leadership of the High Priests Group.

Why is self-reliance important to Mormons? Why do Mormons talk about emergency preparedness?

Samuel A. Madsen, Sr
The Lord wants us to prepare ourselves for the trials of life. Those can range from a loss of employment by the head of a household to a wide ranging calamity that affects an entire region. By preparing ourselves physically, financially, spiritually and intellectually for emergencies we can face life's challenges with confidence, even if those emergencies never happen. However, if we, our families and our communities do encounter calamities we will have the resources to be part of the solution and not just part of the problem. Emergency preparation is about being able to help others around us, not just ourselves and our own families. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

Samuel A. Madsen, Sr
The Book of Mormon is rightfully called "Another Testament of Jesus Christ." We have long had the Old and New Testament, the Book of Mormon is a third record of God's dealings with his children and serves as yet another witness of his Gospel plan and the divine mission of Jesus Christ.
