Hi I'm Laura Guillen

I was born in Guatemala, but grew up in Nevada. I'm a student, daughter, sister, but most importantly I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a college student preparing to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. I have two younger siblings. I moved to the United States when I was 7 years old, but my parents always instilled in my siblings and I a love for our roots and where we came from. I love music because it is truly the universal language. On my free time I like to play the piano and when I was in high school I participated in several orchestras in my community.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a member of the church. Growing up I was taught about Jesus Christ and a loving Heavenly Father. The older I got I started to question the things I was taught, I read the Book of Mormon for the first time when I was 14 and prayed to know it was true. I got the confirmation in my heart that it was. I know this church is true because my prayers are always answered, because through the scriptures I have learned things that bring me joy and comfort. In difficult times I have known where to turn and I have felt the spirit confirm to me that these things come from God. I know that when we follow the example of Jesus Christ we are happier. We are given commandments to give us guidance so that we can some day live like and with Him. I believe that only a loving God would provide a clear and direct path for us to follow that would allow us to live with Him again.

How I live my faith

It's important to note that our faith is centered in Christ. We learn of Christ we speak of Christ and therefore we strive to live in a way he would. To me that means giving of my time and talents to serve others. I am the pianist at my church meeting which requires me to practice and be prepared. I also volunteer at a hospital on my free time. I live my faith by serving those around me, by giving of my time to my family and anyone who could use a hand.
