Hi I'm Alex Silva

I am Soldier, a college graduate, an athlete, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am working on my second degree in college studying International Business, Spanish, and Military Science. I am in the Illinois Army National Guard. I enjoy running, hiking, and all different kinds of outdoor activities. I like to stay active and continuously challenge myself.

Why I am a Mormon

While I was born and raised Mormon, I chose for a long time that I didn't believe in it and I didn't want to follow the basic principles. I chose to live the kind of life that all of my friends were. I've come to realize my friends and I were just trying to chase happiness. After realizing that the happiness the world chases doesn't last, I became kind of lost. I felt like I was just floating with nothing real to hold onto. After a few years I was invited to a church activity. While I did not want to go, my cousin insisted. Reluctant as I was to go, I actually had fun. I slowly started to go to a small section of church meetings, at first just for the social aspect, then I felt something begin to stir. During this slow journey, I ended up at a large concert in Chicago surrounded by people I didn't know who were chasing the things that the world has to offer. It suddenly hit me, "this" kind of life was not bringing me true happiness. I started a long, sometimes painful, journey to finding true happiness. I say sometimes painful because change is not always easy, but what I learned is that it's always worth it if you're following Christ. As I pressed forward a warmth that I had never felt before began to envelop me. I have begun to realize how my Savior changes everything. While I am continuously learning, there are a few things I've come to know. I know that my Savior lives, that He loves me, I know that The Book of Mormon is true. Because The Book of Mormon is true, I know that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the true church of God. I know that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever and because of that we have living prophets. I know that God wants all of us back. All we need to do to start on that journey is act in faith.

How I live my faith

I love my faith by trying to make the best choices I can daily. I try to live in a way that follows the example that Jesus Christ set for us. I enjoy learning new things about other religions but continuously sharing about mine. I attend church every Sunday and I am the athletics chair for my branch in St. Louis. While I am mediocre at most sports, I enjoy my calling because I meet so many new people and have fun while doing it.
