Hi I'm Mary Ann Richards

I'm a mother of 5 and grandmother of 16. The gospel of Jesus Christ blesses my family every day, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of 5 grown children. Being a wife and mother has been my greatest purpose in life. We have 16 wonderful grandchildren that bring joy to our lives. I graduated from college after most of my children were grown. I taught elementary school for 15 years, and especially enjoyed the years I was the music specialist for our school. One of the very special opportunities I have had in my life is singing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I was able to sing with the choir for 5 years. It was a wonderful opportunity. I retired from the choir and teaching this past year, and my husband and I are going to serve as missionaries for our church for 18 months in the New York City area. We are very excited to bring the same joy we have felt from the Gospel of Jesus Christ to others that have not been exposed to the good news of the Gospel.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in an active Latter-day Saint family and had wonderful parents that loved the Lord Jesus Christ and taught us about his mission. Although I was born into this wonderful family that loved the Lord, I was encouraged to gain my own conviction of the gospel. I was issued the challenge to read the Book of Mormon and pray about it for my self to find out if the gospel message is true. I have read the Book of Mormon many times and prayed about it. Many times I have felt the Spirit witnessing to me that it is true. This gives me a lot of comfort because I know why I am here on earth. I know that God is my Father and that he sent his son Jesus Christ to atone for our sins and allow us to return to live with our Father in Heaven someday. One of the key understandings that the Gospel of Jesus Christ gives me is the knowledge that families can be eternal.

How I live my faith

Much of our families life has been centered around activity in our church. Our church is an organization where we all have opportunities to serve in different capacities. When my children were young, I worked with the small children teaching Sunday lessons and leading the music. I have also worked with the teen age young women in our congregation. I felt a lot of satisfaction when I saw these young women that I worked with make good decisions and grow to be wonderful women and mothers. A major part of my church activity has been in music. I have been the choir director and also played the organ in our Sunday worship services. A real highlight of my church activity has been singing with the Tabernacle Choir. I performed with the choir for 5 years. During that time we practiced every Thursday night and Sunday morning prior to our weekly TV and radio broadcast. I loved singing with the choir and had many wonderful, spiritual experiences.
