Hi I'm Gianluca

I am a Floridian, a beat-boxer, a soon to be missionary, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Orlando, Florida. I am 19 years old and the youngest in my family. I love traveling, taking pictures, trying all different kinds of food, and spending time with my family and friends. I also love to listen to music and beat-box. I enjoy watching movies and TV shows and can often quote them from memory after watching them just once. My dad joined the Church in Italy and moved to the US after he married my mom. Now I am preparing to serve a mission in Rome, Italy and I am excited to learn more about the language and culture of my father and his family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the Church and I was always taught that it was true, but it wasn't until I was about 15 that I knew for myself. One summer, my parents sent me to Especially For Youth (EFY), which is a one-week camp that helps youth deepen their faith, testimony, and commitment to Jesus Christ. Close to the end of the camp, my counselor talked to us about Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, and afterwards I decided to pray to know if they were real, if the Gospel was true, if Joseph Smith was a prophet, and if the Book of Mormon was true. After my prayer, I felt this warm feeling inside my heart confirming to me that it was all true. After that experience, I felt my faith and testimony grow exponentially, and my love for the Gospel and for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ increased. I started to understand more of what was taught in the talks, testimonies and lessons given in church and I was better able to apply the knowledge I gained. I had a greater desire to serve others and be a better friend and example to those around me. I started to take my callings more seriously and tried harder to give them my best effort. Even when life was hard because of trials and challenges I faced, or even just because of my own self-doubts, weaknesses, mistakes, or fears, my Heavenly Father was always there to bolster me up. Whenever I felt upset about a mistake I made or just whenever I was sad or frustrated, the Holy Ghost came and comforted me and let me know that everything was going to be okay. As I exercised the faith to learn about a principle or commandment by keeping it, I discovered the blessings that come from doing what the Lord asks. What at first seemed like checking the boxes became truly knowing for myself that these things are true.

How I live my faith

Growing up, I went to a family ward (or congregation) where I served in various youth positions. I was heavily involved in the Boy Scout Program and contributed to many Eagle projects organized by scouts in my troop. Eventually I carried out my own project to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Afterwards, I also served as an Eagle coach for one of my friends. In my family ward, I served often with the local missionaries teaching people about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I also enjoyed visiting and teaching members of my ward as a home teacher, one of the programs we have in the Church where members visit other members each month to share a gospel message with them. Home teachers also check on the families they visit to make sure they are doing okay and see if they need help with anything. I think this is a great way for members to develop friendships and watch out for each other. I was able to go home teaching with some amazing people, like my father, who taught me a lot. I also served in a variety of community service projects organized by my ward. Now I go to the local young single adults ward (people 18-31 years of age). At first I was a little nervous to change wards, but now I have made a lot of really great friends and enjoy participating in all the fun activities. I spend a lot of my time now preparing to serve a mission. I am excited to teach others about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and to help them draw closer to Him.
