Hi I'm Jenn

I'm from small-town Idaho and love it. I teach orchestra in Utah. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the fourth of six children, and love my big-ish family. I grew up playing the violin and piano, and majored in music at BYU-Idaho. I'm now doing what I've dreamt of doing for over 10 years - teaching orchestra in public schools. I am really enthusiastic about the outdoors. I love being outside, regardless of the activity. I love doing anything with my family, and most things with my friends. I love running half-marathons, and will someday compete in a full marathon. But just one, because I think I will hate it. Being outside and active is important to me, but I also love sitting and reading inspiring books. Lastly, I have recently decided I am artsy and creative, and now spend too much time and money feeding that passion.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it keeps me anchored. I'm a Millenial, and, as I see it, the most defining characteristic of my generation is we have nothing to hold on to. We have nothing that can truly keep us all grounded. The world believes in everything and nothing. There are no anchors, no fixed points. The world "wavereth," it is "driven with the wind and tossed." Christ is my anchor, my focal point, the thing that keeps me alive and grounded. I know He is the Son of God. I know He died for us so that we can live with Him and His Father again. I know temples are holy places. I know this life is not the end. I know there is so much goodness in righteous families, and I truly believe families can be forever. I know the power of God is on the earth once more. The priesthood is a powerful and righteous force. I know God speaks to us through His servants on this earth, such as our prophet. I know Thomas S Monson has a spirit about him that can only come from someone who knows God so intimately. I know the Book of Mormon contains the word of God, and was written by ancient prophets. I know I can feel the Spirit of God comforting me and inspiring me as I read that book. I know Joseph Smith was a prophet. I really do. I don't know everything, but I know God loves me. I know I am His daughter. That knowledge, and the companionship of His spirit, gives me all the confidence I need to accomplish my life's mission. It is difficult, sometimes, to maintain my testimony in this dark and troubled world. But I know God is good, and all good things come from God. There is so much goodness in this gospel and this church. It is not perfect, because it is run by man, but it is led by God and it cannot fail. I'm just a follower of goodness and light, and I have never found more in this world than I have in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

My faith affects every single aspect of my life and daily activities. I live my faith by befriending others, and by serving as a visiting teacher to girls in my ward. I live my faith by ensuring my physical appearance matches who I am on the inside. I live my faith by seeking to be modest and kind in my actions and words. I live my faith by trying to keep the big picture in mind and not sweating the small things. I live my faith by reminding myself often of Christ and all I owe Him, so I don't take this life for granted. I live my faith by giving thanks for this earth, this life, and everything in them.
