Hi I'm Joey Wagner

I make videos. I fly drones. I build mini trailers. I enjoy doing just about everything. My name's Joey Wagner, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I'm 20 years old and I'm currently serving a mission in Oregon. I grew up in Pennsylvania where there weren't many members of the church. In school, there were around 2000 students but only 10 Mormons. In that environment, it was sometimes hard to live the commandments so I distracted myself with my interests. I would fly drones and kayak lakes. I would design and create just about anything. I would build miniature trailers for remote-control cars. I'd cook; I make a mean Chicken Parmesan. I enjoy gardening and landscaping. I love nature, camping, and adventuring through the woods. I love to make videos and take pictures. I love my Heavenly Father. I love my brother and my Savior, Jesus Christ. I am grateful for His example. I am extremely appreciative of the atonement and the opportunity it gives me to repent and be better. I know that Jesus Christ has felt my pains. He suffered for my sins. It is that knowledge, that testimony, that encourages me to be better, to choose the harder right over the easier wrong. I know that God and Jesus Christ love me. And you. Everyone.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are adult converts to the church. While they did not have the opportunity to grow up in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I did. For most of my life, their knowledge was good enough for me. They knew the church was true, and that was good enough for me. It wasn't until I was older that I truly wanted to know for myself if the church was true. So I asked. I prayed to my Heavenly Father to know if it was true. Within a week, my parents reminded me of the stories of how I got my name. My name was given to my mother through the Holy Ghost and there are multiple stories that told my parents I was still on the way. Hearing those stories gave me so much strength and confidence. An overpowering feeling then came over me and the spirit confirmed that the Church is true. I always knew it to be true and there was no question about it. As I continue to put my faith in Jesus Christ and my Father in Heaven, I continue to learn of Their love for me and each of His children.

How I live my faith

There weren't many members of the church in my school. Mormons made up 0.5% of my school's population. Being one of the only members at my school meant that everyone would look at me and think "All Mormon's act like Joey." That meant that I had to be the best example that I could be. I couldn't mess around and take my religion lightly. One of the things that helped me most with that was having early morning seminary. Having seminary before school every morning was something that people thought was pretty weird. I'd get up at 5am every morning to go to a church class. Sounds weird, right? But it gave me the spiritual boost I needed to press forward and have faith. I can't say I remember very much from that hour before school but I am, oh, so grateful for the opportunity I had every morning to have my spiritual cup refilled. Currently, I'm serving a two-year church mission. I'm devoting two years of my life to sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. It's not an easy task, no one said it would be. But it is definitely one of the best experiences I've ever had. This mission is an opportunity to share with others what I know to be true.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?
