Hi I'm Jim W.

I grew up in Texas, USA, not as a Mormon, but at age 20 I found the true Gospel of Jesus Christ and now I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a retired dental technician and wonder how I ever had time to work. There are so many things that I love to do and want to do. Some of these interests include golf, fishing, bicycling, refurbishing old Cushman scooters, sculpturing, reading good books and learning about the word of God. One of life's great lessons that I have learned is that true happiness comes through keeping God's commandments and aligning my will with God's will.

Why I am a Mormon

When I agreed to hear the missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I was not looking for another church to attend or an opportunity to increase my faith or understanding of God or His Son Jesus Christ. I was home from college for the summer and had agreed to hear the missionaries to make my mother happy. My mother had joined the church two years earlier and wanted me to have what she had. As the missionaries taught me about the restoration of the church, that Jesus Christ had established when He was here on earth, with the same organization and priesthood authority He had given His apostles, the Holy Ghost bore testimony to me that what they were teaching was true. As I began to read and study the Book of Mormon along with the Bible it became obvious that it was the same gospel of Jesus Christ in both books. I believed the Bible was the word of God and so began to know the Book of Mormon was the word of God as well. I knew that it was right to be baptized for the remission of my sins by one holding the true priesthood authority. This baptism would stand as a witness of my faith in Jesus Christ and a covenant to strive to keep His commandments. Following my baptism I received the Gift of the Holy Ghost. As I continued to study the scriptures that gift has been the source of knowledge of eternal truths. The Holy Ghost is also a guide for decisions and behavior that have helped me strive to keep my life in line with God's will. Although living in this world, that is so influenced by Satan, is not easy; staying focused on my Savior Jesus Christ and going to my Eternal Father in Heaven in prayer for the answers to my questions has given me a solid foundation to my life for the past 47 years.

How I live my faith

Living one's faith is not just a Sunday activity, living one's faith is an hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly way of life. If your family, business, recreation and learning parts of life do not reflect the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ you are not living your faith completely. When the Lord commanded us to be perfect even as our Father in Heaven is perfect He was saying to us, be complete in your life. Perfection is who Jesus Christ was and hopefully part of that perfection is reflected in my life. Loving God and our neighbor are the two greatest commandments and when we learn to do that we are beginning to reflect exactly how God and His Son Jesus Christ feel about us.
