Hi I'm Jared

I like track and cross country, SOMEHOW I was our high school's valedictorian and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

So I just recently graduated and now I'm getting ready to serve an LDS mission. I have been called to serve in the northern half of Paraguay. I am super excited to serve a mission and to have the opportunity to serve others and experience a different culture. I look forward to meeting new and exciting people and also growing as a person. After my mission I will enroll in either BYU or U of U on scholarship and work towards degrees in applied mathematics and engineering.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was younger my family didn't go to church. My mom had been Mormon when she was younger but my dad was not so I had things like the bible and scriptures around me but there wasn't really any pressure to read them or to go to church or anything like that. My dad is a drug addict and an alcoholic and when I was in the 5th grade he got sent to prison for killing someone. By the time I this happened I had already moved 9 times within the states of Utah, Washington, and Nevada. When my dad was sent to prison, we moved to West Haven, the city I live in now. I still didn't go to church or anything but a lot of my friends in this area did and they would invite me to fun little activities and stuff. They were all a really good influence on me :) When I was in 9th grade I decided to enroll in Early Morning Seminary (if you aren't sure what seminary is, google that or institute because they changed my life) The seminary class was a before school religious class that started at 6:30am. Most days I would wake up at 4:30 or 5:00 to train for track and cross country before going. Seminary was a great experience and my teacher Brother Peterson really cared about me and took an interest in me. He was into running too! He got me to keep coming to seminary and eventually to start going to church. The gospel has really helped me deal with some of the trials in my life and to get along with my family so much better than I did before. I have become a kinder more patient person as I have let people like Brother Peterson influence my life and tried to be like them. Now, my dad is out of prison and my mom comes to church with me sometimes. Life is still really hard some days but I get serious comfort by looking to Christ and I am better able to deal with the challenges from my family the more I try to become a better person. I have chosen to serve a two year mission for the church because I want to serve people and be an example to them like Brother Peterson was to me.

How I live my faith

Really the biggest way that I have ever lived my faith is by choosing to serve a mission. It is kinda scary to leave my family for two years and it is stressful to put off college but I know that god exists and I believe that he will be happy about my decision to commit this part of my life solely to serving him.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?
