Hi I'm Josh

I grew up in Utah. I was born into the church, but only just recently really felt converted. Called to serve in Bogota Colombia.

About Me

I graduated high school in 2015, I went to college for a little bit after that but had a distinct feeling that I had to be doing something else. So I quit college and found that I should have been preparing for a full time LDS mission. I am currently preparing for a mission and have been called to serve in the Bogota Colombia South mission. I'm actually half Colombian, so this was a very touching experience to be called to Colombia. South Bogota Colombia is actually where my father was born, so it will be very interesting to see how the culture and people are there.

Why I am a Mormon

Like I said previously, I have came a long way. I'm not perfect, I've made plenty of mistakes and have done my best to change for the better. I was born into the church and never really took it seriously. It wasn't until my two best friends left on their missions that I decided to find out for myself if this church truly is a church of God and if Jesus Christ truly was real. At the time, I worked at a call center and only got a call once every 2-3 hours almost. So in my spare time waiting for a call I would read the Book of Mormon (I've never read it by myself) I truly 100% dedicated myself to find out if this church is true. I even dropped out of college so I would have more time to read and study the things that would teach me of this gospel. I found out that the Book of Mormon is true before I even finished reading it. One day I was reading Helaman 14:2-8. In those verses the prophet Samuel was on top of a wall preaching unto the Nephites about the birth of Jesus Christ. The Nephites were trying to hit down Samuel with stones, arrows and just anything that could be thrown, yet no one could reach him and hit him with their weapons. When Samuel continued to preach about the birth of Christ I felt a strong and utmost powerful happiness that is now way possible for any man to bring unto themselves. It was the power of the Holy Ghost bursting with joy and confirming unto me that the things I was reading are true. Immediately I started to think about eternal families and nothing sounded anymore perfect. I also started getting evil thoughts in my head that made me completely 100% disgusted. (Satan was trying to attack me and pull me away from finding out the truth.) Yet the happiness was so pure and real that it kicked out any unclean thought from my head. Its been a couple months since then, I have now repented of many things and have a mission call to the Bogota Colombia South mission. Where my father was born. I still have family there that I've never met. Yet.

How I live my faith

Growing up I never went to scouts and wasn't very active, but as I started getting older I started taking the church more seriously and have searched for the truth in this world. Long story short, I ended up believing and knowing that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is truly a church of God and that the Book of Mormon is truly Gods word and that all the prophets and apostles in the Book of Mormon were truly called of god and were real people just like me and you. So ever since I found out for myself, I started trying to be a good example unto others. I started standing up for what I believed in and don't let anyone get the wrong idea about what we practice in this church. I do my best to be a home teacher to the ones I am called to teach in my ward and help them with whatever they currently need help with in their lives. I most definitely am not perfect and have came a long way and have changed dramatically compared to how I used to live, I don't participate in a whole lot of church activities. But when someone invites me, I do my best to attend the event and help out with the ward activities.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Josh
The Atonement of Jesus Christ is a gift given to everyone who has ever lived on earth. It's a gift that gives us the ability to be forgiven of any sin that we have ever committed. To make right from our wrongs. When Jesus Christ was on earth he atoned for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane, in other words he felt and took the blame of every single sin that has or ever will be committed. Because of Jesus Christ's sacrifice atoning for our sins, all of us are now able to repent and go through a process where we can look back on what we've done and do our very best to change and never make the mistake that we made again. The way we use this gift is by attending sacrament during church and partaking of the bread and water and remembering Jesus Christ and the atonement and promising that we will do everything we can to change. The reason why the Atonement and actually using the Atonement is important is because everything we do now in this life will be judged by God in the next life. Everything we do now will determine where we go in the next life. This all ties up with something called "The Plan of Salvation" After the second coming of Christ and the millennium we will all be sent to one of Three Kingdoms of Glory (Pretty much different Planets) and if you live righteously and follow Gods commandments, you will be able to live with God again in the Celestial Kingdom (top kingdom of glory) That is our goal. Thats why the atonement is important. Show more Show less
