Hi I'm Dottie

I was born in a California beach town. I graduated from BYU in elementary education and have 3 children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in a beach town and still love hearing the sound of ocean waves hitting the shore and the smell of salty sea air. After graduating from high school, I moved to another state to attend a Church university. I majored in elementary education and, after graduation, I began teaching 1st grade. During that time, I met my husband in a class for elementary teachers. He was living in another state and was not a member of any church. In fact, he was agnostic. When the class ended, we communicated with each other through letters. Whenever we were together, I shared the teachings of our Church with him. At first, he was not interested in my religion at all, but after awhile, he realized the truthfulness of what I was sharing with him. After 7 years of investigation, he was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We have 3 grown children now, and will soon be leaving on a mission to South Africa!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love everything about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have a testimony that the Book of Mormon is a true book of scripture and another testimony of Jesus Christ. I am thankful to know of eternal blessings God promises those who participate in sacred ordinances and covenants. Contrary to the philosophies of the world, Mormons view life in terms of eternity rather than worldly accomplishments, wealth, and possessions. Our holy temples are places where marriages are performed for “all eternity” by officiators who hold the priesthood authority of God. Because of this authority, families become eternal units with children sealed to their parents forever. I am also very thankful for the Gift of the Holy Ghost, received at baptism, that is the “still, small voice” that guides us and leads us to truth. My husband and I are excited to share these things with the people of South Africa. We love the Lord and His Restored Church and are anxious to teach his gospel to all who will listen.

How I live my faith

The Savior Jesus Christ spent His life teaching and serving others, and I want to follow His example. For most of my adult life, I have been a teacher of children and youth in my church and have had the opportunity and responsibility of teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ each Sunday. In my community, I have participated in blood drives, neighborhood clean-up and service events, fund raisers for children and adults with cancer and other life-threatening diseases, high school assemblies, and humanitarian projects. One of Christ’s attributes was that he sought out and helped those in need, regardless of race, religion, or income. I am so thankful to be a member of his Restored Church and for the desire it has created within me to serve others.
