Hi I'm Joel Christensen

I'm an NBA and basketball fanatic. I was born with a moderate hearing loss in both ears. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Tampa, Florida. Once I return from my mission I will attend college majoring in Computer Science. In addition to programming and technology in general, hobbies of mine include basketball, running, and spending quality time with family and friends. Some interesting events in my life include attending a Google Developer Group Summit at their headquarters as a sophomore in high school and being stung by a stingray in the ocean during a family reunion.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Church with my parents setting great examples for me and teaching me to follow Christ. However, as I've gotten older, I've learned for myself the truthfulness of this gospel. I know from personal revelation that our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ live. I know that Christ atoned for our sins, and that because of his sacrifice we can repent and make our way back to the presence of our Father. I know that the gospel has been restored to the Earth through a prophet Joseph Smith. I've read the Book of Mormon and prayed to know of its truthfulness, and I can testify that it is truly the word of God. Over the course of my life, I have seen the effect that my testimony has had on me. It has led me to great friendships and protected me from temptation. I am so grateful for the knowledge I have of the Savior and his gospel.

How I live my faith

My main focus currently in how I live my faith is in preparing to bring others to Christ as a full-time missionary. Besides my call to serve, my time as a member of the church has been spent in youth programs, home teaching families from my wards, and teaching Sunday School classes. Of course, these duties only take up a small amount of my time each week. I've found as I've gone through life that the number one way in which I can live my faith everyday is through example to those around me. As I keep the commandments and stay true to the teachings of Jesus Christ, people notice and begin to treat me differently. So by being an example not only have I helped influence others and their view of our faith, I have also protected myself from temptation and bad influence.
