Hi I'm Rommel

I am your guy next door. I grew up in the Philippines. I am a science enthusiast and I love astronomy. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My current job is assistant building facility manager. I am a simple guy next door. I love travelling and taking pictures. I build robot toys for my past time. Video Games are part my childhood( and adulthood). Sometimes I sing and upload it online but I am not a singer, I just want to sing. Time to time, I blog. I can swim and teach people how to swim. Hey I play Pokémon Go too!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up poor. During my childhood days, our roof has big holes that will leak when it is raining so I have to put buckets beneath them but when the sky is clear I can see the stars. I started to question why life is unfair and why there is so much suffering. All the Religion for me at that time is all the same. I used to believe that when you are born in India you are more likely to become Hindu, if you're born in Japan probably become a Buddhist, or if you're born in the Philippines you might become Catholic. I was born in a Catholic family and met a lot from other Christian denominations and also Muslim friends in school. All were sincere in their religion and all of them has the same convictions that their is the true one. That added to my confusion. That confusion caused me to doubt the existence of God. I have a lot of questions. I have a lot of problems. Looks like no one is in charge. Each time the rain makes our roof will leak and disturb me in my sleep, i feel bad and I really doubt about God. But each time after the rain stopped and the sky is cleared, I can peak on the sky and see some stars. I grew up as an Agnostic but the stars keeps on telling me something that Someone must have been out there. When I met the Mormon Missionaries, I am ready to mince them in a debate. They must be like those waters from our leaking roof, annoying and disturbing. But when they started opening their mouth, all I did was to listen. I have felt peace and loving presence when they are around. They became stars in my eyes. They presented a beautiful Plan of Salvation and I have felt like I already knew it. I was baptized and felt a burning bosom that I cannot describe. All my questions are answered. I became a better man. Now I have a direction in life. I know my purpose and I know my worth. This is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Sunday is special for me. I got to see my friends and at the same time worship our Savior with my loved ones. I am a church clerk right now. As a church clerk, I assist our Bishop in his administrative duties and I help church members about their membership record concerns. Outside of church, I strive to an example. Because Philippines is always frequented by typhoons and calamities, Sometimes I volunteer in rescue activities.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon temples? What goes on in Mormon temples?

Rommel
There are worthiness qualifications before Mormons can enter the temple. It takes personal preparedness and worthiness before one is allowed to enter a temple. There is no secret going on but instead it is sacred. In the Temple we learn eternal truths and receive sacred ordinances. It is the place to unite families together forever. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Rommel
Because of life's hardships and sufferings, I used to think that there is no God. But each time I stare at a clear night sky and marvel at the sight of the millions or billions of stars, it makes me think twice. And when I became a Mormon, I learned a lot of things about God, His role, His Plan and His relationship with me. In the Book of Mormon we can read that: “All things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth... and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator” (Book of Mormon, Alma 30:44). Now I think better. All these marvels, the beauties, the creations, even this consciousness that makes us ask questions must have come from a Supreme Creator and not by chance. By just knowing there is a God brought in so much hope and direction into my life but there is much more into it. There is a God, and He created us for a purpose. :) Show more Show less
