Hi I'm Nate Butterfield

I'm a missionary serving in California. I grew up all over the world. I love sports. I love God. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of 4 in my family. I'm also the only boy! Life was interesting growing up with only sisters, but thankfully my dad and I often found time to get away and either play or watch sports together! My family has always meant the world to me. I consider ourselves especially close to each other because we moved often while growing up, so we had to stick together to make it through the different, and sometimes difficult countries. In high school, I loved to run (still do!) and also jump in Track and Field. I also LOVE to play and watch basketball. I'm still hoping to be able to make it to the NBA someday. After my mission, if the NBA doesn't work out, I will continue my education in Utah and hopefully find a career that I am passionate about (like maybe being a water boy for the Utah Jazz!).

Why I am a Mormon

I try to live my life in the way that brings me the most happiness, the most hope, and the most satisfaction. I also try to make every decision in accordance with how I believe God would have me choose. I truly believe that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is God's church and that it's teachings are completely true. I have found so much hope through the Plan of Salvation and through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Because of Christ, if I have faith, strive to improve, and ask for forgiveness when I mess up, God will forgive me. I have felt that forgiveness along with the unconditional love that God has for me and each of his children. I guess you could say that I am a Mormon because I know that if I follow the steps of the Gospel, I will be forgiven of my sins, be able to live with my family forever, and obtain Eternal Life.

How I live my faith

The faith that I have in Jesus Christ leads me to constantly try to better myself. Because of the perfect example he set for us while on earth, I know what kind of person I should strive to be! As I participated in sports, my faith led me to try to be a gracious loser and an ever more humble winner. In my efforts to live a more "Christ-like" life, I have set aside two years and devoted them to serving the Lord as a full-time missionary! I love service and I try my best to put others before myself.
