Hi I'm Julianne Peterson

I grew up in the farming community of Emmett, Idaho . My husband taught at the University of Idaho where we raised our family.

About Me

My husband and I are retired. We have a small farm on which we grow fruits and vegetables to eat and preserve. I spend one day a week volunteering at the local library checking the condition of their books. I like to do family history and have recently updated the biographies of my ancestors. I also wrote a county history for the historical society as a fund raiser. I have six children. Four of them live close by with their families so we get together often. My husband and I served a proselyting mission to San Francisco in 2006-2007. It was a good experience. We worked mostly with the young elders and sisters helping them with their district meetings and teaching assignments. This time we are going to the Las Vegas West Mission to serve in the office. We are looking forward to that experience.

Why I am a Mormon

My goal is to follow the example of our Savior Jesus Christ and live as he lives. This requires that I mourn with those that mourn, comfort those that need comforting and stand as a witness of God at all times and all places. I must go about doing good to all men. In fact , to love others as I love myself. When I do what is right the Holy Ghost witnesses that to my soul. He leads me along blessing me when I keep His commandments which gives me much happiness. I know that Heavenly Father lives and is the father of my spirit and I can return and live with Him again with my family. We must prepare ourselves during this lifetime by keeping the commandments and following the prophets. Jesus Christ redeemed man from his fallen state by paying for our sins both temporally and spiritually. This he did in the garden of Gethsemane and on the cross. He was perfect and able to provide an infinite atonement. Our Father in Heaven is wise and all knowing. He was able to thwart Satan and his followers so they could not rule over us. Father was able to satisfy all of the requirements to save His children and still be a just God. His plan is called the plan of happiness and living the commandments give us happiness. Heavenly Father has given us the Holy Ghost to help us live the commandments. When we stay close to him and listen and pray for his guidance he tells us what we should do. We are not left alone but have a tutor to help us stay on the path to eternal life. This is a living church with revelation which the prophet and apostles and other leaders receive to help them follow the path that Jesus Christ, our leader wants us to take. Jesus set up the church in his day and still directs the work. That is why the church is said to be restored.

How I live my faith

Music is an important part of worship service. I play the organ for meetings which requires a lot of practice time. I also teach the 7-8 year old children on Sunday. Most of my service has been to the primary. I used to teach the women of my congregation which required a lot of reading. I like teaching because I can help others consider new ideas and concepts. I am assigned to visit and befriend three ladies in my area. I have a lot in common with these women and I enjoy visiting them monthly in their homes. Sometimes this is the only contact the women have with the church. Our congregation has a lot of older people and we have many funerals in which a meal is provided for the families of the deceased. I quite frequently provide a dish of food for the luncheon. The women's organization sets up the tables and sets out the food and waits on the tables. After the meal is completed, they also do the cleanup. It is a labor of love. The women meet together once a month and have different learning activities such as sewing, crafts or cooking classes. I usually like the cooking classes. This once a month meeting gives us time to visit with other women in the ward. We have a lot of people moving in and out of the ward because we are a bedroom community to Boise and Meridian. We like being close to the Boise Temple and the new Meridian Temple. We can do temple work for our family who didn't have an opportunity to do their own work. We have a responsibility to provide ordinances for our deceased ancestors. They, going before us, paved the way for our blessings so it is only right that we should help them with the blessings they need.
